It was during the wee hours (5:00 am) on April 12, 2009, when the well
known Shanidev Temple at Adipur – Anjar road was abuzz with a lot of
activity. It was the starting point of the Welspun Mini­ Marathon 2009,
organized by Welspun Group of Companies, Anjar and was made a great
success by the team members of Welspun Anjar HCGA.
The Welspun Mini­ Marathon 2009 was truly an event one of its kind that the
Anjar Welspunites and people of Kutch witnessed. This Welspun Mini­
Marathon run track measured to 5.5 kms in total was attended by over 450
Welspunites & their families including members of local Lions and Rotary club
of Gandhidham, Adipur & Anjar. Each runner had been provided with
Welspun Mini­ Marathon 2009 blue strips on white T­ shirt & cap, symbolizing
the uniformity of Welspunite spirit.
The green flag was waved by the chief guest of the occasion, Mr. S.
Srinivasan (ED, Iffco – Kandla). Very soon crowd of runners was on their toes
to reach the finishing point. Some ran to win, some to enjoy, but all seemed
to absorb the bliss of the beautiful landscape and nature’s bounty spread
along the Welspun Mini­ Marathon run track. Adequate arrangements had
been made for drinking water, lime water, glucose water, tea & biscuits at
the start, finish & all along the run track for the runners. Emergency
services, ambulance & medical facilities had been provided for.
Shinay Dam – the picturesque finish point is an enthralling spot, where
nature seemed to applaud Welspun’s & the winner’s Victory. The dignitaries
from the Rotary & Lions club of Adipur, Anjar & Gandhidham and Local
Administration authorities were present to encourage this endeavor.
All the thoughts & insights shared by Mr. Bharat Sharma (Director –
Operations, WIL Anjar), Mr. Asim Chakraborthy (Director – Welspun City),
Mr. Kanjibhai Sorathiya (President – Rotary Club) and other dignitaries,
centered to the message of importance of health awareness, stamina
building & social bonding.
The winners had been chosen across different categories based on gender &
age criteria. Each winner was awarded with a prize & certificate by the
dignitaries present.

The prize distribution ceremony was followed by a vote of thanks by Mr. Asim
Chakraborthy (Director – Welspun City). The programme was followed by a
healthy & sumptuous breakfast to all present.
Truly the message of Chale Chalo ­ Hum Saath Saath Hain !! was
conveyed in the most memorable manner.
