northern lights council H 2010 annual report Making a Difference volunteer leadership Silver Beavers The National Silver Beaver Award is the highest award a local Boy Scout Council can bestow upon a volunteer Scouter in recognition of distinguished service to youth. Tunheim, Thief River Falls Ken Leggate inducted into National Hall of Leadership The 100th Anniversary National Hall of Leadership is not a hall or building in the traditional sense, but its purpose is just as significant. The National Hall of Leadership was created as part of the BSA 100th Anniversary and provided an opportunity to recognize outstanding leadership by a Scout, Scouting volunteer or registered leader who has made a significant difference. Kenneth L. Leggate Dickinson, ND Kenneth L. Leggate from Dickinson, ND was selected to represent the Council in the National Hall of Leadership. Ken joined a select group of individuals honored during Scouting’s centennial year for their outstanding leadership and dedication in bringing to life the Scout Oath and Law. page 14
Character Counts positive impact on the development of character Dickinson State University Scholarship Justin Herner, an Eagle Scout from Troop 58 in Mott, ND, has been named the first recipient of the Character Counts Scholarship at Dickinson State University. The Dickinson State University Character Counts Scholarship, established in 2010 with the Northern Lights Council, Boy Scouts of America, recognizes the positive impact Scouting has on the development of character in youth and the value of continued participation in the Scouting program. Dickinson State will award up to two scholarships annually. The scholarship provides 50% of tuition to attend Dickinson State University and its approximate value over a 4 year period is 10,500 dollars. Justin Herner Eagle Scout, Troop 58 Nathan Paul Mundahl Eagle Scout, Troop 11 Matt And JoAnn Butler Youth Development Scholarship The Matt and JoAnn Butler Youth Development Scholarship program recognizes the importance of comprehensive youth development and the value of continued participation in the Scouting program through the Girl Scouts of the USA, Camp Fire USA, and the Boy Scouts of America. The scholarships have been made available through the generosity of Matt and JoAnn Butler of Fargo, North Dakota. The Matt and JoAnn Butler Youth Development Scholarship Program was established in 2001.
