Leadership from the key three <strong>2010</strong> was an exciting year for Scouting for both the <strong>Northern</strong> <strong>Lights</strong> <strong>Council</strong> and the entire Boy Scouts of America organization! It was great to be part of the 100th Anniversary of the BSA! The <strong>Council</strong> continues its proud heritage of serving community organizations across the State of North Dakota, 18 counties in northwest Minnesota, and 2 counties each in South Dakota and Montana that comprise our service area. In <strong>2010</strong>, Scouting played an important role in the lives of more than 14,880 youth who experienced the positive program of character development, citizenship training, values education, and physical fitness with the support of hundreds of chartered organizations and community groups. The mission of Scouting was passed along to these young people thanks to the tireless efforts of 3,896 registered adult role models. <strong>2010</strong> was outstanding and the <strong>Council</strong>’s accomplishments reinforce our volunteer’s investment of time and talents to help Scouting succeed. A few selected highlights in <strong>2010</strong> include: H June 4-6, more than 3,000 Scouts and leaders gathered on the ND Capitol grounds for a Centennial Celebration that will be a lifelong memory for all that attended. Wow, what an event! H Camp Wilderness served 1,625 Boy Scouts (an 8% increase over the previous year), and 601 Cubs and Webelos attended the Butler Cub Resident Camp. H 120 Scouts and leaders from across the <strong>Northern</strong> <strong>Lights</strong> <strong>Council</strong> attended the National Scout Jamboree at Fort A.P. Hill, Virginia, July 26-August 4. On November 19, <strong>2010</strong>, we publicly announced a $4.0 million Center for Scouting Capital Campaign at the new building site on 42nd Street and 19th Avenue South in Fargo, ND. At $2.8 million or 70% of the campaign goal, we had a positive message to share on this historic day in the <strong>Council</strong>. A new headquarters and regional hub for all of Scouting in the <strong>Northern</strong> <strong>Lights</strong> <strong>Council</strong> will soon be a reality. We plan to break ground for the new Center for Scouting during the summer of 2011. We are proud to share with you this <strong>2010</strong> Annual Report for the <strong>Northern</strong> <strong>Lights</strong> <strong>Council</strong>, Boy Scouts of America. As you review the highlights of Scouting, we hope this report demonstrates Scouting’s mission and the difference Scouting makes in a young person’s life.
