MESSAGE FROM SENSEI
Dear Students and Parents
I hope everyone is having a great time and enjoying a healthy lifestyle.
The year is ending quickly and it seems everyone is busy getting ready
for the upcoming holidays. We will be ending the year with our Annual
Junior Dojo Tournament and Holiday Potluck Party on Sunday December
3rd. I request everyone to come and attend this event, the tournament
is a great opportunity; especially for those of you who have not
yet competed, to try out the techniques you have learned in class, in a
safe and less formal atmosphere. Afterwards, have fun enjoying games,
win prizes and feast on great food, while making new friends. Please
mark your calendars and be sure to keep practicing. Parents, we are
looking for volunteers for this event, so if you have the time, and can
spare a few hours, please let me know as soon as possible. Any support
is always appreciated.

NAIHANCHI DACHI (Horse Stance)
When we practice punching and blocking at the beginning of the class, we stand in Naihanchi Dachi
(Horse Stance). It's very important to keep this stance solid and strong when practicing punching and
blocking. It helps make your legs stronger and also helps to teach you how to use your hip
correctly when punching and blocking.
Here's how to do it right:
1) Your feet should be a little more than shoulder-width apart. Not too far apart and not too close together!
2) Your toes should point in just a little bit. Make sure your toes are not pointing out!
3) Your knees should be bent slightly forward, but don't let them collapse inwards! Instead, use your leg
muscles to pull your knees away from each other.
4) Keep your back straight!
There's a brown belt kata that is done completely in Naihanchi Dachi. It's called, simply, "Naihanchi."
Practice this stance correctly all the time and when you learn this kata you will do a great job!
