Radiative Capture Deduce electromagnetic transitions: from scattering state to state of residual nucleus. Many such reactions are important in nucleosynthesis. “Nuclear astrophysics” At low energies (near Coulomb barrier), it is convenient to multiply the cross section by the energy: S factor = σ E e -2πη .
