2012 Judging Panel<br />

Dr. Jonathan Beddoes, Ph.D., P.Eng.<br />

Dean <strong>of</strong> Engineering at the University <strong>of</strong><br />

Manitoba, has an engineering career that<br />

includes industrial product and process<br />

development, research in industrial<br />

and government laboratories, as well as<br />

extensive experience in academia. Prior<br />

to joining the Faculty <strong>of</strong> Engineering at<br />

the University <strong>of</strong> Manitoba in 2011, for<br />

18 years he was a faculty member in the<br />

Department <strong>of</strong> Mechanical and Aerospace<br />

Engineering at Carleton University, Ottawa,<br />

including six years as Department<br />

Chair. He has taught engineering courses<br />

at all levels from first year to graduate<br />

studies. Before joining academia he<br />

worked at Pratt & Whitney Canada Inc.,<br />

and Alcan Aluminium for ten years. His<br />

research interests have included high<br />

strength aluminum alloys for aircraft<br />

applications, casting and processing <strong>of</strong><br />

aluminum for high value added sheet<br />

products, processing/recycling <strong>of</strong> Al-Si<br />

alloys, and high temperature materials for<br />

gas turbine applications. He is the (co-)<br />

author <strong>of</strong> more than 60 research papers,<br />

three patents and two books dealing<br />

with industrial processing <strong>of</strong> engineering<br />

materials.<br />

Dustin Booy, M. Eng., P.Eng. is the<br />

Contract Engineer for the Engineering<br />

and Operations Division at Manitoba’s<br />

Department <strong>of</strong> Infrastructure and Transportation.<br />

With more than ten years <strong>of</strong><br />

experience in project management and<br />

transportation engineering, Dustin has<br />

been involved in such recent notable<br />

projects as the CentrePort Canada Way<br />

Design-Build where he acted as a Project<br />

Manager. His diverse career experience<br />

also includes accomplishments in the discipline<br />

<strong>of</strong> geotechnical engineering as well<br />

as environmental engineering. He holds<br />

Bachelor <strong>of</strong> Science in Civil Engineering<br />

and Master <strong>of</strong> Engineering (Geotechnical)<br />

degrees from the University <strong>of</strong> Manitoba.<br />

Ruth Eden, M.Sc., P. Eng. is the Director<br />

<strong>of</strong> the Structures Design and Construction<br />

Branch for Manitoba Infrastructure<br />

and Transportation, Water Control and<br />

Structures. She has been the Director <strong>of</strong><br />

Design and Construction for five years and<br />

currently oversees a staff <strong>of</strong> 45. Ruth has<br />

been involved in the construction <strong>of</strong> bridges<br />

and structures throughout the Province for<br />

over 20 years and is a past President <strong>of</strong> ACI<br />

Manitoba Chapter. She is on three separate<br />

committees <strong>of</strong> CHBDC as well as the executive<br />

for the Structures Standing Committee<br />

for Transportation Association <strong>of</strong> Canada.<br />

Dave Ennis, P.Eng. is the former Executive<br />

Director & Registrar <strong>of</strong> the Association <strong>of</strong><br />

Pr<strong>of</strong>essional Engineers and Geoscientists <strong>of</strong><br />

Manitoba, and former director on the Board<br />

<strong>of</strong> Engineers Canada. He has prior experience<br />

in bridge engineering and in the heavy<br />

construction industry. He holds Bachelor<br />

<strong>of</strong> Science in Civil Engineering and M.Sc.<br />

degrees from the University <strong>of</strong> Manitoba.<br />

Lawrence Ferch<strong>of</strong>f, FEC, P.Eng. is currently<br />

the Manager <strong>of</strong> Electrical Codes &<br />

Standards/Chief Electrical Inspector for<br />

Manitoba Hydro. Over the past ten years,<br />

Lawrence has also been directly involved<br />
