from BIO 166 will be averaged together to determine the overall grade for this category.
3 Excludes CNA I certification
Acceptance will be granted to the 20 students who have completed all admissions requirements
and have the highest number of points.
‣ The next 20 students who have completed all admissions requirements and who have the
highest number of points will be placed on an alternates list.
‣ Alternates not selected to enter the program and applicants not accepted into the program
must reapply for admission in a subsequent year.
The following two (2) requirements must be met before being invited to take the TEAS:
1) Required CPT Scores:
Reading 80 Arithmetic 55
Sentence Skills 86 Algebra 55
Computer Competency 80
If you do not meet the required CPT scores, you should enroll in the appropriate
developmental education course(s).
ASSET, COMPASS, SAT, or ACT scores may be used in place of some of the CPT
requirements.

2) Current certification as a Nursing Assistant I and listing on the North Carolina Department of
Human Services, Division of Facility Services, Health Care Personnel NA1 Registry. The
Nursing Assistant program must be state-approved with theory, lab, and clinical components.
Fast-track NA programs do not meet this requirement. Nursing Assistant program
documentation must be submitted to the Health Programs Admissions Office for approval.
When you have met all admissions requirements, you qualify to take the TEAS (Test of Essential
Academic Skills).
‣ You will receive a letter from the Health Technologies Admissions Office notifying you of
specific dates and times for this test.
‣ There is a $30 charge to take the TEAS.
‣ The TEAS may be taken only once per year.
‣ Applicants not accepted into the PN program must reapply for the next year’s program and
must retest on the TEAS.
‣ TEAS study guides may be purchased at either of SPCC’s bookstores.
A letter from the Health Technologies Admissions Office will be sent to you notifying you of your
provisional acceptance into the Practical Nursing program. Once accepted you must do the
following:
‣ Attend the Practical Nursing orientation session.
‣ Submit the Student Medical Form for North Carolina Community College System Institutions.
‣ Submit proof of current CPR certification. This course is available through SPCC’s Continuing
Education Division.
Applicants accepted for admission into the Practical Nursing program at SPCC are required to
complete a criminal background check and a drug screen after notification of acceptance and
prior to participation in the onsite clinical portion of the program. Based on the results of the
criminal background check and the drug screen, hospitals or clinical facilities where you will
participate in onsite training may deny you access to their facility, resulting in your inability to
complete the clinical portion of the PN program. If you are unable to complete the clinical
portion of your training, you will be unable to progress in the program.
