QUICK SIX
For many outsiders, the Grand Final appearance in 2010
was an overachievement for such a young team. For the
players, 2010 was a sign of things to come.
Player retention has been strong at Eastlake and the
excitement around the Club is a reflection of the
commitment to 2011. With the new opportunities and
experiences facing the Club, the start of the season
cannot come quickly enough. The core of the Senior
Team has been training since November and has been
complimented by the addition of some quality new
players.
Eastlake continues to develop our people and our Club.
In January, the Senior Coaching Team attended the AFL
Coaching Conference in Melbourne which gave some new
ideas to the Coaches and also reinforced that Eastlake is
on track with our approach to the NEAFL. The opportunity
to provide our players with a pathway to the highest level
of AFL continues to be there and the challenge of the
NEAFL will certainly give our boys a true indication of
where they stand.
The off season has seen Eastlake expand its footprint
in Canberra. The Club has expanded its commercial
operations with the acquisition of The Sports Club Kaleen
and the recent renovations are now complete which gives
patrons a quality new venue on the northside. This venue
will compliment the Eastlake Football Club in Kingston
and the Calwell Club in Tuggeranong, and provide an
even more sustainable organisation for the challenges of
modern day football.
The Club has clear aspirations for 2011 and our players
are looking forward to the challenges of the NEAFL. The
culture is healthy, the players are excited and the Club is
well positioned for the future.
E STORY
Coming of Age – David Cummins
A player of immense potential who has had a solid pre
season and is aiming to establish himself as consistent
first grade player. His natural football ability is very
exciting and he has the opportunity to become one of the
NEAFL’s young stars in 2011.
New Recruit – Mark Kimball
After spending a successful stint with QAFL Premiers
Morningside, Mark as returned home clearly better for
the experience in the QAFL. His approach to pre-season
training has been very professional and the Club is
looking forward to the class he will add to the midfield.
Superstar – Aaron Bruce
The player Eastlake is looking to dominate in 2011. His
versatility and skills are well known in the competition,
and the Grand Final loss in 2010 has left a strong desire
in Aaron to perform even better this year.
The Rock – Chad Gibson
Over the off season, the Club Captain has driven the
playing group to aspire to bigger and better things in
2011. His approach to developing the team is outstanding
and the culture at Eastlake is largely due to the
leadership of Chad. His actions on the field will continue
to be the benchmark by which the Club performs.
Hard as nails – John Van Meurs
Every forwards nightmare. Strong, fast and committed.
John is traditionally a fearless defender and has the
ability to shut down the most talented players in the
competition. Don’t be surprised to see him take his game
to a new level in 2011 and make his presence felt in all
parts of the ground.
The Big Improver – Daniel Ryall
A player who came to the Club as a talented youngster
and is now one of the most committed footballers at
Eastlake. His passion for the game and the Club is clear,
and his development in recent times indicates he is set
for a strong 2011. He has matured into a quality player
and will be vital to ensuring Eastlake’s backline is tough
to penetrate.
