CONFERENCE AND
INCENTIVE TRAVEL
Slovenia is perhaps still regarded as
a relatively new destination, despite
having been on the European
conference map since the 1980’s.
This Central European country is a
land where the colourful and relaxed
Mediterranean world blends with the
efficiency of Alpine countries.
The tradition of holding congresses
in Slovenia goes back as far as
1821, when the Congress of the Holy
Alliance was held in Ljubljana. Today’s
advantages of this young EU country
are easy accessibility, geographic and
cultural diversity, meeting facilities with
state-of-the-art technical support as
well as exciting gastronomy allied to
superb wines and genuine hospitality.
Dedicated and experienced professional
congress organisers, destination
management companies, event and
incentive agencies guarantee the success
of your event and that you will get good
value for money.
Slovenia is blessed with a remarkable
variety of landscapes, and thus events
may be planned in cities, at the
seaside, in Alpine resorts, spas or in the
countryside, perhaps in an attractive
historic building. There are full-offer
congress centres that can welcome up to
2,000 delegates and convention hotels
with capacities for up to 1,100 delegates
at your service. Incentive companies
with diverse creative programmes round
off the offer.
Tourist Board and its role is to provide
professional and objective advice about
relevant offers to meeting and incentive
planners. All major meeting and
incentive suppliers are members of the
Slovenian Convention Bureau.
Casinos
Slovenia’s casino and entertainment
tourism is an important and
attractive element of our tourist
offer. It has an almost forty-year
tradition based on a complete
tourist and casino package. In
addition to casinos, guests are
attracted by quality hotel services,
diverse culinary fare, recreational
and shopping facilities, cultural
events, dancing and entertainment,
fashion shows, beauty contests as
well as congresses and business
meetings. The casino offer is a
rich blend of gaming, pleasure
and a relaxed atmosphere. The
modern concept of gambling and
entertainment tourism has blended
European tradition and the American
gambling style, creating a new
product that is now more attractive
to Europeans. The response to
this has been exceptional and is
reflected in a greater number of
visitors. More than 90% of visitors
to Slovenian casinos are from
western Europe.
There are presently twelve casinos
and casino entertainment centres in
Slovenia. These are mainly at popular
tourist destinations and in larger cities.
The Slovenian government is soon to
grant a couple of new concessions for
the construction of casinos and a large
number of concessions for gaming
salons. The strategic direction of
Slovenian casinos is towards attracting
tourists. The first Slovenian casino
opened in Portorož (www.casinoportoroz.com)
and was then followed by a casino in
Bled (www.casino-bled.si). A new trend
began to develop in Slovenian casinos
in 1984, with the opening of a new
casino in Nova Gorica (www.hit.si). In
the next ten years various new casinos
opened, such as in Rogaška Slatina,
Maribor (www.casino-maribor.si), Lipica
(www.casino.si/lipica), Ljubljana (www.
casino-lj.si), Kranjska Gora and Otočec.
The largest and the newest is the
Perla entertainment centre of the HIT
Universe of Fun in Nova Gorica, marking
the implementation of a new business
philosophy for Slovenian casinos. Small
entertainment centres focussed on
tourism are to open and more casinos
will appear in urban areas in the
forthcoming period.
