ARTS AND TECHNOLOGY
The visual arts have long been a
major component of the Faculty of
Applied and Creative Arts (FACA)
curriculum at UNIMAS (Universiti
Malaysia Sarawak), reflecting the
faculty’s strong support of the arts.
To highlight the work of many student
artists and designers, the faculty gallery
initiated a series of art exhibitions
available for daily view except for
public holidays, every Saturday and
Sunday.
The FACA’s art gallery is committed
to the enrichment of cultural life on
campus and its surrounding community.
The gallery exists primarily to serve
the students and present works that
are intriguing, inspiring, thought
provoking and at times socially
challenging, yet always in keeping
with the university’s institutional
excellence. The works of the art
faculty is featured in smaller, singlecampus
exhibits in the gallery. As a
scholarly hub of the university, and
with its spacious area, the gallery
is an ideal location both to exhibit
and view art, films and designed
products. Exhibitions are planned,
promoted and installed by the
gallery committee, which is composed
of students and staff advisors.
FACA aspires to pioneer and lead
in the convergence of various
disciplines from the development
of technology through teaching,
research, innovation and creative
product. Being continuously aware,
the programs develop, refine, and
empower cultural value as an
agent in addressing the culture of
globalisation. FACA’s vision is to be a
dynamic and innovative art institution
of international stature.
The main objectives of FACA are
three-fold: To provide a wide
platform for students to explore the
nature of art and design from both
aspects of theory and practice, to
equip students with a diversity of
knowledge that involves artistic skill,
technical capability and competency
in management, and to produce
graduates with outstanding artistic,
technical, and analytical skills. They
will be taught how to articulate and
be well informed on the history,
theory, aesthetics, and the importance
of art in our society, and able to
adapt to the demands of a rapidly
changing world.
Teaching and learning facilities consist
of studio and workshop equiped
with equipment for fine art, painting
and drawing, photography, ceramic,
textile and fashion, graphic design,
industrial design, animation design;
video and film recording studio;
Fine Arts Programme
The Fine Arts programme emphasises
on 5 main disciplines namely painting,
printing, 3-D sculpture, photography
and electronic art. The course
curriculum is design to be multidisciplinary
and contemporary.
The integration provides choices
for students to generate creativity
and innovation through Fine Arts
domain. The educational approach
of the program gives emphasis on
the theoretical and practical aspect
for the purpose of education and
research. The theoretical aspect covers
study on media research, history,
appreciation, interpretation, and
aesthetic and art criticism. The practical
aspect focuses on the exploration of
new media and technology, mastery
of medium and application of relevant
techniques in the studios and fieldwork.
Both theory and practical
aspects are complemented with
management elements.

The Performing arts and technology
production department is made out
of three programs namely Music,
Drama and Theatre and Film. These
programs aim to impart its students
