Luxurious massage and spa treatments
were pretty much unheard of in Kuching
years ago. But they have since become
a rage among the society here who
constantly seek to pamper and beautify
themselves in one of the many wellness
centres that offer aesthetic services
ranging from relaxing massages to
chemical peels.
However, how much can these centres,
which are mostly operated by beauticians,
guarantee in terms of results? As clients
who pay a substantial amount of money
to beautify themselves, are they given
assurance that they are in good hands?

Dr Adam Miller says that it’s mutual that
everyone wants to look their best.
“People know that they don’t want to
look as tired and they would rather have
better skin. If they can find a treatment
which can help improve their skin condition,
they are willing to do so,” he says.
In order to cater to the growing demand
for aesthetic health here, NMSC has
established the Centre for Aesthetic
Health (CAH) which aims towards a
more holistic approach to the idea of
cosmetic and beauty treatments.
“First of all, the philosophy behind this
is to give people the absolute best care
just like in cardiology or in any other
range of medicine,” explains Miller,
who is also director for the centre.
“It’s not just about making money...the
upside of looking at this is to ultimately,
give the best treatments to clients. If I
know that I have treatments that can
help treat your acne but I don’t address
issues such as your lifestyle that may be
causing the acne...then I’m not giving
you the best care,” he stresses.
CAH, says Miller, is unlike other wellness
centre or medi-spas available around here.
It is currently undergoing renovation
whereby CAH will be a one-stop centre.
“Apart from excellent facial, massage
and manicure-pedicure services carried
out by therapists from Thailand and
Indonesia, we will also be adding
thermage and fraxil laser treatments,
chemical peels, dermabrasions, eyelash
extensions, laser hair removal, electrolysis
and waxing just to name a few,” he
says, adding that there will also be
a body contour area to help clients
achieve their goal for their ideal body.
Miller, a Board Certified Maxillofacial
Surgeon from the eastern United
States is offering multiple clinical
treatments that include Botox as well
as eyelid surgeries, cheek and chin
implants, face-lifts and liposuction.
Another highlight of CAH is the sleep lab,
a first that has yet to been incorporated
at aesthetic centres worldwide.
“Sleep is an important component of
overall aesthetic health as the Human
Growth Hormone (HGH) is the most
valuable natural rejuvenators that we
have and it’s only produce significantly
when you sleep,” says Miller.
“Every 90 minutes our pituatary gland
will release HGH but this is many times
greater when you sleep. This is important
because it repairs collagen, nerves,
muscles. And yet most people in today’s
modern society are not taking advantage
of their natural rejuvenator because
they’re not stopping to get some sleep.”
“That is the power of HGH and is truly
natural rejuvenation. The centre will be
taking that into account and I think that is a
unique aspect of our centre that I have not
seen anywhere else around the world.”
Rejuvenation also starts with helping
people smile more. For some, this
means adding confidence to their smile
with dental implants, a field which
Miller is also an expert.
“For others that means helping them
achieve better sleep,” he promises.
Each particular treatment conducted
at CAH will be customised to suit each
client’s preference.
“We’ll be providing them with a very
comfortable space where they can feel a
sense of membership and combining
packages for people to suit their lifestyle,”
Miller says, adding that staff at CAH
include a dietitian and nutritionist.
As reasons for aesthetic care are
private and individual, CAH also prides
itself in giving clients a sense of privacy.
“The centre is located on the fourth floor
of NMSC, where the whole area will be
dedicated for our aesthetic treatments
providing clients with service while at
the same time giving them privacy. We
also have a Pinnacle Room where it is a
private waiting area for clients.”
