generally three meetings are held
annually at the Istana Negara (palace)
but the venues can be changed on
agreement of all concerned. Each
Malay Ruler on a rotational basis
usually chairs these meetings.
The main function of the conference is
to deliberate on matters pertaining to
national policy, religious observances
and election of the King or Yang Di
Pertuan Agong and his deputy, once
every five years or after the death of
the King. Interestingly though, once
elected King, the Ruler is no longer
a member of the Conference and
his place being taken by a Regent
appointed by him to such meetings.
These meetings are customarily
attended by the King and the Prime
Minister who represents the Federal
Government and the Rulers and
Governors, each of whom is
accompanied by the Menteri Besar
or Chief Minister. The Keeper of the
Rulers’ Seal is the appointed official
of the Conference of Rulers and acts as
Secretary to the Conference of Rulers.
Apart from the many functions of
the Conference, its members must
also be consulted on the appointments
of Chief Justice of the Federal Court,
the President of the Court of Appeal,
Chief Judges of the High Courts, the
other judges of the Federal Court of
Appeal and the High Court, the
Auditor-General, The Chairman,
Deputy Chairman and members
of the Public Services Commission;
The Chairman, Deputy Chairman
and other members of the Railway
Service Commission; Chairman and
members of the Election Commission.

As host for this royal event, Sarawak will
have the opportunity to showcase its
range of ethnic, culture and religious
diversity that is unique in the nation
and members of the public and
visitors will also be entertained by
these colourful displays. A number of
events will also be specially hosted to
welcome these royal entourage and
their family members who will also
take the opportunity to visit the
various places of interests in the
state. In view of the auspicious
occasion, there will be the official
opening of the new State Legislative
Assembly building, a special regatta,
river floats and fireworks to be held at
the Sarawak River, which will provide
thrills and spills for everyone in the city!
