Those plastic
discount cards are
worth something?
After living in QD for a while, you may
notice your wallet growing fuller,
though not necessarily with yuan
notes!
It seems every place from restaurants
to supermarkets in this city offer a
discount card.
But just how do they work? How do
you accumulate points? And how do
you redeem the points you’ve accumulated?
This month’s Did U know offers an
explanation of the points cards from
Hisense and JUSCO, two of the many
businesses expats frequent.

Hisense VIP Plaza Club Card
Spend to Earn
In all shops B to 3F (except Starbucks & restaurants)
spend 100 rmb to earn 1 point
In the Basement Supermarket
spend 200 rmb to earn 1 point
1 point = 1 yuan
Redemption
Redeem your points on member Weekends, every 3rd weekend of
the month. This is the only time you can redeem your points: At
the 3F office, there are items on display, to choose from. Or, at
any Hisense shop/supermarket. The cashier should ask you if you
want to use your points, you will receive the discount on your purchase.
Extra Benefits
VIP card members receive a 10% discount in the stores (but not in
the supermarket). If you do a lot of shopping in the shops, you
may become a gold or diamond card member, which has higher
discounts and also closer parking places.
Expiration
Points accumulate for one calendar year - Jan 1 to Dec 31,
2009. Beginning the next Jan 1, 2010 - your points are gone,
start at zero.
JUSCO Point Card
Application
Fill out the form @ the Customer Service Center, and bring along
an ID (passport). There is a 30 rmb fee for the card, and 50 bonus
points are automatically loaded onto your points card.
Spend to Earn
You earn 2 points for every 10 yuan you spend.

Redemption
After earning 1,000 points, you can exchange the points for a 100
yuan JUSCO gift card. Remember to bring your ID to redeem your
points.
Extra Benefits
JUSCO Point Card members receive the sale prices on groceries.
(Formerly printed special discount tickets were given out @ the
Customer Service Center every month.)
Expiration
Points are good for two years.
Memberships also expire after two years.
To renew simply reapply for a new card — pay the 30 yuan fee, get
the 50 bonus points. And start the whole process over again!
