Church Cleaners Sat. (2-4) Barb Faciana, Shirley Rocco, Noreen Stone As we all know, there have been multiple adjustments to our liturgical music program over the past six months. Some of these changes are part of the new liturgy translations, others are a result of new diocesan policies, and some have been brought about by a change in personnel. We all understand that the change is difficult, and we want to know how you feel about the modifications to our liturgical music program and your suggestions about enhancements which we can make to improve your liturgical experience. You will have the chance to voice your thoughts on Sunday, February 19 after the 8 & 11 am Masses. OLOG PRO-LIFE COMMITTEE Next week we will be joining with Right to Life of Northeast Ohio and dozens of area churches in the annual signature Media Campaign. Volunteers will be in the back of church accepting signatures and donations for the unborn in a protest against legalized abortion. Your signature will be on a petition for life which will be sent to our legislators, and your donations will support prolife multi-media education. BLESSING OF THROATS On Friday, February 3, we celebrate the feast of Saint Blaise. Saint Blaise was bishop of Sebaste in Armenia and believed to have been martyred in the early 4th century. Legend has him saving the life of a boy with a fish bone caught in his throat so he is the patron saint of those with throat ailments. The blessing of throats will take place on Friday after the 8 am Mass and after the Masses during the weekend. REDISCOVERING CATHOLICISM Session #5 February 20 * 2 or 7 pm LATIN AMERICAN COLLECTION Next weekend the second collection is the El Salvador- Latin American Appeal. This is the only appeal that supports our mission in El Salvador. This is the main support for three priests and one religious sister who work in the three parishes served by our missionaries. For 48 years the Dioceses of Cleveland has supported these missions. Please keep them in your prayers and thank you for your continue monetary support. VOLUNTEERS NEEDED We need a few good men, women or teens who attend any of the Masses to help usher. Ushers are only needed at Mass; they DO NOT count the collection. One more person is needed to help with the church cleaning on Saturday mornings. The person scheduled would only help clean once every six weeks. A few more people are needed for our Finance Committee. Parishioners with finance background would be helpful but not necessary. The Finance Committee meets once a month. If you are interested in any of these positions, please call the church office. We already have a great group of volunteers but we are always grateful for new people to join with fresh ideas!
January 29, 2012 Page 3 FAMILY PERSPECTIVES In today’s gospel, Jesus establishes his authority by His wise teaching and healing among the people. Parents, you have authority from God to teach and care for your children. Do you exercise this authority in the spirit of Jesus? Are you under His authority, seeking His wisdom when making decisions and exercising your power? PSR NEWS PSR is in need of a few volunteer teachers for next fall. We like to have a few teachers for each classroom so we can be flexible when a catechist needs time off. Specifically, needed are two Grade 2 First Communion teachers to come forward. This is an important role; however, we’ll train you! We would like this person to commit to a couple years. We are flexible when we make the teaching schedule to allow for Sundays off, if needed. We have a few “senior” catechists that have developed this class so be assured the “new” catechists will have plenty of support. This class takes place during the 11:00 Mass in the hall. If interested, call Jane Wetzel at 330-278-2653. VOLUNTEER APPRECIATION Our Volunteer Appreciation dinner is coming up on Friday, February 17. If you have not received your invitation, please contact the church office before February 7. THANK YOU! Last Saturday evening the Cub Scouts had their Pinewood Derby. As part of their project, they collected a great abundance of can goods for our Food Pantry. God bless you! UNITY CATHOLIC CREDIT UNION You’re invited to join Unity Catholic Credit Union for their annual meeting on February 12th at St. Charles Borromeo School, Corrigan Gym. The business meeting starts at 2 pm with a dinner to follow. Dinner is $7.50; reservations are required by February 4th. Call with any questions or to make your reservations at 440-886-2558. MEN—ANSWER THE CALL Want a spiritual jump start? Plan to attend the Catholic Men’s Fellowship of NE Ohio “Answer the Call” conference at Villa Angela-St. Joseph High School in Cleveland. The February 25 conference will be a day of dynamic speakers, music, fellowship and much more. The day begins with a light breakfast at 8 am and concludes with 4 pm Mass. SPAGHETTI DINNER St. Martin of Tours, Valley City, Knights of Columbus invite you to their Spaghetti Dinner on February 12th from noon until 5 pm. Cost is $8 adults and $5 for children under 12. PRE-CANA DAY For couples planning to be married, you are invited to a Pre-Cana Day at St. Albert the Great, North Royalton on February 11th. Please register by calling 440-237-6760. CATHOLIC SCHOOL WEEK January 28-February 3, Catholic Schools Week, is a special week at St. Francis Xavier School, Medina. On January 30 from 10-11 am and from 6:30-7:30 pm prospective families are welcome to tour the school and receive information on their high academic standards, faith formation and service to the community. Also on Thursday, February 2 at 7 pm they will celebrate a Catholic Schools Week Liturgy followed by Open House. If you would like place someone on this prayer list, please call the office. Thank you for your support of our paper/cardboard recycling bins. For the year, ending December 31, 2011, 62.78 tons of material was recycled. The church received $909.50. THANK YOU! Start saving your aluminum cans— the beginning of March we will have an aluminum can bin for recycling. It will be located next to the existing bins.
