Changes to entry to
the Certificate in University
Preparation
Due to the change by TEC to the funding of
pre-degree programmes, the number of students
able to undertake the Certificate in University
Preparation (CUP) has been capped. This has
led to the establishment of a selection process
which will look at a student’s potential for a
successful outcome to their university study.
Applications from students who are under 20
years of age on the first day of the programme
will be ranked according to their NCEA results.
The closing date for applications for programme
entry is now three weeks before the start date
of each intake. It is recommended that students
include a short personal statement to support
their application.
Accommodation Update
We received great applications for our halls of
residence this year. All the halls are now busy
settling their students into hall life, living in
Christchurch and studying at the University.
If you or your students are interested in viewing
any of the halls you are welcome to book
a tour in advance by either completing the
Campus Tour booking form (www.canterbury.
ac.nz/liaison/campus_tours.shtml) or
contacting the Accommodation Office directly
(accommodation@canterbury.ac.nz).
Full tours of the halls of residence also occur
during UC’s Information Days in July.

on accommodation options, the application
process, costs and information on renting,
boarding and tenancy issues.
Publications
Our first publication of 2010, An Introduction to
UC, is intended for prospective students and is
now available. Liaison staff will distribute these
to students during their school visits. Our range
of First Qualifications brochures will be sent out
in May along with the Accommodation Guide.
