Andalus, and Sicily), since its conquest by Arabo-­‐Muslim armies until the 13 th
century.

“Europe of the Renaissance: Religious Crisis and Reform.”
Starting with Luther and the Holy Roman Empire, we will study the major
milestones and the particular modalities of the processes of rupture of Christian
unity. The Protestant reforms and the Catholic reform will be studied successively,
not only in the perspective of “confessionalism,” but also in regard to civil violence
and political conflicts that resulted from them.

L4HI0142 – French Political and Social Life of the Early 20 th Century

We will study the period ranging from the interwar period (the “années folles”) to
the dark years (the “années noires”) (1919-­‐45), concentrating on the economic and
social consequences of WWI, the mutations of France between the wars, the
reordering of political forces and of French society during World War II until the
Liberation of Paris.

from 1945 to 1974.
