Jim Briggs, Georgetown
Assistant City Manager,
will present the
program for the first fall
2011 Men’s Christian
Fellowship dinner
meeting. It is set for
Monday, September 19,
at 6 p.m. in the Fellowship
Hall.
This will be the ninth
time that Jim has spoken
to us on Georgetown
happenings and plans
from the perspective of
city government. The
previous programs have
been informative and
educational. This is an
excellent opportunity to
learn about the present
and future plans of
Georgetown.
Jim started with the
city in 1989 as the Public
Works Staff Engineer.
He later served as
the city’s Director of
Community-Owned
Utilities until 2000,
when he was promoted
to the position of Assistant
City Manager/Utility
Operations. He is
responsible for the strategic
planning for the
utility.
In order to plan for
this meeting, dinner
reservations must be
made with either Frank
Hubbard (863-6144) or
Jim Wilhite (868-8086).
Cost of the dinner is
$8.50 per person.
All men of the church
are invited to attend
Men’s Christian Fellowship
meetings.
Presbyterian Women hold Fall Gathering/Brunch
Presbyterian Women will hold the Fall
Gathering and Brunch on Saturday, September
17, at 9:30 a.m. in Fellowship Hall.
The gathering is open to all women of the
church. Hostess circles are Elizabeth,
Hannah, Martha, Naomi and Rebekah.
The speaker, Cynthia Guidici, will introduce
the Bible study for this year,
”Confessing the Beatitudes.” The study
will bring us fresh understanding of a familiar
Bible text. She also will offer Bible
study leader training on September 30 at
11 a.m. in Room 101.
The proposed budget will be presented
for approval at the gathering, and the
“Thank Offering” will be accepted and
dedicated. This is one of the three offerings
that PW collect each year, considered
as 2 nd mile giving.
Women are invited to become a member
of any circle. A listing of circles and
circle meeting times is below and can be
found on the PW bulletin board, located
in the hallway by the library.
If you currently have a family member
serving in Iraq or Afghanistan, please
notify me at 394-5850. Circles send cookies
monthly to individuals serving in
those countries.

“SHOW ‘N SHARE” to celebrate the late Dorothy Barrett
”SHOW ‘N SHARE” seamlessly slips back
into our Sunday mornings! Yeah! After a
summer break, our fellowship-enriching
get-together will once again encourage
folks of all ages to SHARE in the special
joy that means so much to the presenter.
Dorothy Barrett loved being busy. She
was a mother, wife and second mother to
the Barrett girls. Her home celebrated every
holiday possible with lots of decorations.
A career in nursing extended her
caring to the world of healing. When Dorothy
and Nelson joined First Presbyterian,
she raised her hand often to help out. She
F E L L O W S H I P
became a church officer, active circle member,
and coordinator of “Tables of Eight.”
Behind the scenes, she produced
countless blankets for the babies at Su
Casa De Esperanza. Dorothy enjoyed
turning vibrant yarn into snuggley hugs
for the little ones in Pharr, Texas, who
are beneficiaries of Mission Sewing. That
wonderful group will join you in celebrating
Dorothy on Sunday, September 11.
Come by “SHOW ‘N SHARE” any time
that morning or join the gathering at fellowship
time (10:30-10:58).
