Letter to the Minister of Energy and Infrastructure
I am pleased to submit the 2009 Annual Report of the Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO).
Throughout the year, the IESO reliably operated Ontario’s power system and efficiently managed the
wholesale electricity market in the midst of sector-wide change and evolution. The IESO aggressively
managed its finances in 2009, reducing costs by 6.8 per cent while simultaneously maintaining the high
level of service that customers and stakeholders expect. We plan no increase in our fee for 2010.
The introduction of the Green Energy and Green Economy Act, 2009 has had considerable impact on the
company and its operations, and the IESO has revised its organizational structure to ensure it can deliver
on its core responsibilities in the changing electricity sector.
Engagement with customers and stakeholders remains a priority for the IESO. Survey results show
the company continues to be viewed by customers and stakeholders as a competent, professional and
technically superior organization that serves as a trusted advisor and operator.
At the foundation of the IESO’s success lie its employees. As a direct result of their diligence and
expertise, the IESO is well positioned to play an essential coordinating role in the evolution of reliable,
sustainable and competitively priced electricity in Ontario.
