is a focus on instruction. It explicitly
‘emphasizes what the teacher is doing’.
However the outcome of any instructional
model must of course be improved learning.
This PEEL in-service will explore the ways in
which the teachers research behind PEEL can
help teachers to maximise the possibilities of
the instructional model, leading to quality
learning outcomes.
The day will focus on the following:
• What do we mean by quality
learning?
PEEL teachers describe quality learning as
informed, purposeful, intellectually active,
independent and metacognitive.
• What do effective teachers do?
Effective teachers use a range of tactics,
strategies, and behaviours.
• How does this map onto the
model?
How do these tactics, strategies and
behaviours translate into engage, explore,
explain, elaborate and evaluate?
• Unpacking the
capabilities.

How do these tactics, strategies and
behaviours map onto the capabilities? The
day will expose teachers to a range of ideas
and resources that will help them unpack the
model and design instruction that leads to
quality learning. This professional learning
opportunity will contribute to satisfying
the Standards of Professional Practice and
help particpants access knowledge and
experience from outside their immediate work
environment. During the day there will be
opportunities to draw on different aspects to
satisfy a number of standards.
