STARTING DATE: 15 April 2011
Background
The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in Afghanistan is working in the fields of population and
component focuses on the provision of quality Reproductive Health Services, Safe Motherhood,
Adolescent Sexual and Reproductive Health, HIV/AIDS Prevention and Emergency Planning and
In PD, UNFPA is assisting the Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan (GIRoA) in
undertaking the Population and Housing Census in accordance with the commitment of international
community expressed in the Bonn Agreement and Afghanistan Compact. The population census,
when successfully completed, will provide authentic data on demographic and socio-economic
information on every province, district and village of Afghanistan, which will be valuable for
development planning, investment prioritisation, resource allocation, and rationalising governance and
political institutions. In addition, it would create sustainable capacity in the country for data collection,
The conduct of the Afghanistan Population and Housing Census (APHC) which will start in 2011 and
