Document Management
with SAP
With SAP PLM, SAP AG offers the general
administration of all documents which are created
during the life cycle of a product.
At the same time, CAD Desktop is a tool which
provides excellent support for CAD design with
MicroStation. CAD data can be used directly in a
large number of different SAP processes.
Indispensible for a document management is the
versioning control, the storage of data on content
servers, check-in and check-out assistants,
release and approval procedures and the management
of document status.
AEC driven processes (Architecture, Engineering
and Construction) are fully managable with SAP.
All required data are available in SAP and managed
by SAP. Third party systems can be
avoided. In that connection, redundant data
storage, interfaces, import of data, server infrastructure,
costs and so on can also be avoided.

Integration with
SAP CAD Desktop
To be edited or displayed in MicroStation, original
files belonging together are loaded through
the CAD-Desktop direct from the SAP system
since the assemblys and the drawings, including
their dependent documents, are being administrated
as structures in SAP. All authorised users
have access to the original documents stored in
a central data base. They can thus follow the
development process and also make changes.
This reduces the number of redundant operations.
Through the integration of the SAP change
service, a change history is always available
for the document.
SAP DMS manages all used external references
of a drawing; a document info record will be
created for each external reference.
Configurable data exchanges between the
SAP system and MicroStation avoid unnecessary
multiple data input.
Thus properties of MicroStation files can be
passed on during the creation of the document
information records, SAP data can be transferred
in the MicroStation properties and therefore
also in the title blocks of the drawings, and
document data can be imported during the
creation of materials.
Bill of Materials can be directly generated
from the structure view of the assembly. This
assures that the design material lists are
readily available to all successive procedures.
