CHARCOAL PRODUCTION ASSESSMENT TOOL<br />

Introduction<br />

Refugees make charcoal at all the camps managed by NRC. An assessment of<br />

charcoal production will assist NRC in better understanding the motivations for its<br />

production, the sources of wood used and guide the development of a charcoal<br />

production control / management strategy.<br />

How and when to use this tool<br />

It is suggested that refugees physically in the process of making charcoal are<br />

interviewed.<br />

Instructions for data collectors<br />

1. Explain the rationale for collecting the data<br />

2. Complete all sections of the interview questionnaire<br />

3. Note that the name of the charcoal maker is not recorded<br />
