<strong>NextGen</strong> Showing Results<br />

Per<strong>for</strong>mance Based Navigation (PBN)<br />

• PBN resulted in successful de-conflicts between Henderson and Las<br />

Vegas McCarron Airports and between Chicago O’Hare and Midway<br />

• Significantly shorter flight times and fewer level-offs were seen at<br />

Charleston, S.C. by both military and civilian flights<br />

Adjacent Center Metering<br />

• Coupled with PBN procedures in Atlanta and Newark, traffic flow was<br />

adjusted farther out and at higher altitude resulting in more efficient<br />

cruise.<br />

• Miles in trail in high volume and bad weather conditions were reduced by<br />

80% in Atlanta and 65% in Newark.<br />

• Holding pattern time was reduced by 70% in Atlanta and 67% in Newark<br />

Automated Terminal Proximity Alert (ATPA)<br />

a controller decision support tool implemented at Minneapolis-St Paul<br />

• Reduced the total number of go-around events<br />

by 23%<br />

• Reduced total excess time flown during go-arounds<br />

by 19%<br />

Lower Runway Visual Range (RVR) Minima<br />

• RVR equipment deployed at La Guardia coupled with aircraft equipage<br />

and flight crew training has reduced visibility minimums from 1,800 ft. to<br />

1,200 ft.<br />

• increased throughput by 57% during low visibility conditions<br />

Wide Area Augmentation<br />

• Increased access by providing LPV approaches <strong>for</strong> 139 GA airports<br />

without an Instrument Landing System<br />

• Increased access by 8% to qualified GA airports<br />

• from 50% to 58% in 2012<br />
