Brief introduction to 2 G, 2.5 G and 3 G networks. Telecommunication Systems: GSM - Mobile services,<br />
System Architecture, protocol. Data services – GPRS. DECT, UMTS, IMT-2000.Satellite Networks –<br />
Introduction , Satellite Parameters and configurations, Capacity allocation – FAMA-FDMA, DAMA-FDMA,<br />
FAMA-TDMA, DAMA-TDMA. Broadcast Systems – Digital Audio Broadcasting, Digital Video<br />
Broadcasting. Cordless Systems, WLL.<br />
Wireless LANS: Wireless LAN Technology – Introduction. Infra Red Transmission, Radio Transmission,<br />
Wireless LAN Standards – IEEE 802 Protocol Architecture, IEEE 802.11 System Architecture, Protocol<br />
Architecture & Services, MAC Layer & Management.<br />
HIPERLAN: Requirements & Architecture. BLUETOOTH: Architecture & Protocol Stack.<br />

University Examination Pattern<br />
PART A: Short answer questions 10 x 4 marks=40 marks<br />
All questions are compulsory. There should be at least three questions<br />
from each module and not more than four questions from any module.<br />
PART B: Descriptive/Analytical/Problem solving questions 3 x 20 marks=60 marks<br />
Candidates have to answer one question out of two or two questions<br />
out of four from each module<br />
