CHAIRMAN’S REPORT CONTINUED
Leagues Club
NOTES TO THE FINANCIAL STATEMENTS FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31 OCTOBER 2011
Thank you to the Club’s loyal members who have supported Sharkies through the last 12 months. The period has seen a lot of focus
on the final design and approval for the proposed development on the Leagues Club site. Some rationalization has been required at
Sharkies in recent times as we continue to service the Club’s loan facility and I would like to recognise the on-going contribution of our
members over this uncertain time.
It appears the development approval process is now close to conclusion, hopefully with a positive outcome. This will enable us to offer
many features for Sharkies members in the future and reduce the Clubs debt levels.
In acknowledgement of the on-going support from the member base, Sharkies will be launching a new Rewards Program –
Sharkies Premier Rewards in September, a program that will recognise the contribution that you make to your Club.
You will hear more about this ….
I would also like to thank the Board, Management and staff for their assistance and support since I joined Sharkies as General Manager
in May 2012. I look forward to working with them to develop an entertainment offering that is reflective of this Club’s proud history.
Community Support
Football Club
The Sharks continued to be heavily involved in numerous community and charity initiatives during 2011 while also making strong contributions
to fundraising events throughout the course of the year.
The Sharks enjoyed mutually beneficial community partnerships with a number of organisations, including the local PCYC, the David
Peachey Foundation, the Men of League Foundation, the Cancer Council and the Sutherland Shire Early Childhood Support centre, among
other worthwhile causes. They also supported the NRL’s One Community Program and its various initiatives during the year, visiting country
areas, hospitals and attending charity events. The presence of the Sharks at these events helped to raise the profile and increase the
awareness of the respective events and charity organisations.
In addition the Sharks players also attended schools with and on behalf of ARLD to present the NRL’s Eat Well, Play Well, Stay Well
campaign, were at local district junior rugby league presentation days and training sessions and visited both the Sutherland Hospital and
Sydney Children’s Hospital at Randwick. They also had a considerable presence at a variety of local community events including village fairs,
council celebrations and school fetes.
