CROSSING EUROPE FILMFESTIVAL LINZ presents
150 or so works of the European auteur
cinema from 20-26 April 2009. EXTRA EUROPA
will be represented by cinematic contributions,
festival presentation and musical live acts from
Norway, Switzerland and Turkey.
NORWAY: OK Artist in Residence Inger Lise
Hansen, Tromsø International Film Festival and
Nordic Youth Film Festival
Norwegian film and video artist Lise Hansen (1963),
2009 OK Artist in Residence, explores the phenomenon
of passing time in her experimental works,
shot mostly on 16 mm film and presented in large
part as video installations. During her stay in Linz,
Hansen is going to realize a new project, for which
she will make use of a new shooting technique that
she has developed.
Additionally, Crossing Europe welcomes Tromsø
International Film Festival (www.tiff.no). Tromsø will
show current titles from the 19th edition of their festival,
which was held in January 2009. The Nordic
Youth Festival (www.nuff.no) will present a selection
of Norwegian youth films as well.
SWITZERLAND: A tribute to Ursula Meier &
Lionel Baier, animated films presented by Festival
Fantoche
Crossing Europe dedicates this year’s tribute
to two young and internationally successful film makers
from the French-speaking part of Switzerland:
Ursula Meier (1971) and Lionel Baier (1975). In addition
to a comprehensive viewing of documentary
works and short movies, Ursula Meier’s “Home”
(2008, world premiere at Cannes 2008) and Lionel
Baier’s “Un Autre Homme” (2008, world premiere
at Locarno 2008) will have their Austrian debut
screenings at Crossing Europe. Fantoche, an
international festival for animated film (www.fantoche.ch)
has been invited to Crossing Europe to
present current animated works from Switzerland,
ranging from diploma works from the Lucerne International
Animation Academy to the latest work of
the renowned artist Georges Schwizgebel.
TURKEY: Young Turkish Cinema in collaboration
with the International Film Festival Rotterdam,
Film Magazine Altyazi, and Festival on Wheels
Under the title Young Turkish Cinema Crossing
Europe presents a selection of early cinematic
works (first and second feature films) of a new generation
of Turkish filmmakers whose debut films
first appeared in 2008 and 2009. This programme
was created in collaboration with Film Festival Rotterdam
(www.filmfestivalrotterdam.com), the Turkish
movie magazine Altyazi, and the Turkish Festival on
Wheels that stops off in various cities (www.festivalonwheels.com).
A special edition of Altyazi will
be produced specifically for the Rotterdam festival
and Crossing Europe. Representatives of the
three project partners will be present at Crossing
Europe.
The Crossing Europe Nightline – dedicated
to EXTRA EUROPA
One distinctive programme component of
Crossing Europe is the Nightline taking place
every night (curated by Corridor). Visitors are invited
to unwind at the end of the day and enjoy live
music at the OK media deck. Nightline will present,
amongst others, DataRock from Norway, The Goldfinger
Brothers from Switzerland, and the Turkish
band Kollektif Istanbul.
