3. Potential hazards:
Highly inflammable. Deflagrates also in the absence of oxygen.
In case of fire not only the normal gases originate but hydrogen cyanide and nitrous gases as
well. Risk of most severe lung injury.
Explosion of nitrocellulose membranes can be induced by various ignition sources (sparks,
embers, heat) and by shock or friction.

Nitrocellulose is not toxic. No irritations of rabbit skin and eye were observed. Regarding chronic
toxicity, reproduction toxicity, mutagenicity and carcinogenicity no data are available.
The standard rules on work hygiene should be observed.

No examinations on decomposition, bioaccumulation, mobility, and other ecotoxic properties wer
carried out so far. Based on the chemical structure, rapid decomposition can be supposed, a
potential for bioaccumulation should not be expected.
