KV Women In Business
Lorna Pond
Phone: 849-4124
Lorna Pond and her husband Neil have been operating Urban Landscaping
Ltd. on the Marr Road in Rothesay since 1989. Over its 20 + year history, the
horticulture business has expanded to service not only the landscape
construction needs of the residents in the valley (lawns, retaining walls, walkways,
gardens), but also their landscape maintenance needs and landscaping
supplies needs as well.
“It is interesting to see how landscaping has developed in the area over the
past 20 years” says Lorna. “ The homeowner has become much more
sophisticated in their landscaping tastes now, thanks in part to the evolution of
great cable network shows based on home improvement. Now, installing a
lawn and planting a couple of trees are just the beginning. Additional landscape
features such as water gardens, specialty stone patio areas and theme gardens
are bringing a level of utility and tranquility together to create signature
outdoor living areas for the homeowner.”
Besides the satisfaction that helping clients achieve their landscaping
dreams gives her, Lorna also gets great satisfaction from helping women in the
valley with their fitness goals as well. She teaches pilates at the Rothesay
Ballet School and is a ballet instructor there as well. “Work, fitness and family
balance each other to create a wonderful life here in the Valley!”
Rhonda Finlay BA., M.Sc (Aud)
Audiologist and Owner
Rhonda moved to the Kennebecasis Valley with her two children, Meagan
and Ryan, 8 years ago. She graduated from Mount Saint Vincent University
in 2001 with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology. In 2004, she graduated
from Dalhousie University with a Master’s degree in Science (Audiology). I
feel
privileged as a woman in business in the Valley. I have received tremendous
support in this community and I get to meet so many interesting people
from all walks of life.
On average, people with hearing loss wait 7 years before seeking help.
Hearing loss can be successfully treated for 95% of this population. The
most common emotion reported amongst those who finally seek that help
is remorse;
“I can’t believe I waited so long to do something about this problem”.
Lisa, the office manager, is completing her training as a Hearing Instrument
Practioner. Hearing loss is a very personal and emotional issue.
“What makes our clinic unique are the relationships we build with our clients;
we are dedicated to improving their quality of life”.
