ANIMAL CONTROL SERVICES<br />

Where can I purchase a licence for my dog or cat?<br />

Licences can be purchased at the Town Hall. An altered dog or cat,<br />

$10; unaltered dog or cat, $25, fierce or dangerous animal, $100.<br />

Licences are also available through the Animal Control Officer, telephone:<br />

849-3647 or email: animalcontrol@quispamsis.ca. An approved<br />

certificate from a veterinary or animal hospital is required as proof that<br />

a male dog or male cat is neutered, or a female dog or female cat is<br />

spayed; and confirmation that the dog or cat has received their rabies<br />

Why do I need a licence for my pet?<br />

The licence quickly identifies your pet in the event he or she becomes<br />

separated or lost, or is hit by a vehicle. It also ensures that the proper<br />

immunizations are given to your pet on a regular basis.<br />

What should I do if I find a dead animal?<br />

Contact the Town’s Public Works Department 849-5752 if it’s a domestic<br />

animal, or the local Department of Natural Resources, 832-6055 if<br />

it’s a wild animal.<br />

What should I do if I am bitten by a dog or cat?<br />

Contact the Animal Control Officer at 849-3647 or the Rothesay<br />

Regional Police Force at 847-6300 who can seize and impound the<br />

animal. A Judge of the Provincial Court may then summon the owner<br />

of the animal to show cause why the animal should not be destroyed,<br />

and may either order that the animal be destroyed for the protection of<br />

persons or property, or may order that the owner keep the animal<br />

under control. If the animal’s teeth has broken through your skin, medical<br />

attention should be sought immediately, including a tetanus shot.<br />

What can I do if I have a problem with a neighbour’s dog barking<br />

incessantly?<br />

No animal is permitted to bark, bay or make other noise for such a<br />

period of time as to be a nuisance, which is annoying to other neigbhours.<br />

You may call the Animal Control Officer, 849-3647, who can take<br />

action to rectify the situation.<br />

fWhat can I do if I have a problem with a neighbour’s dog or cat<br />

running at large, or defecating on my property?<br />

No animal is permitted to run loose in our community or to defecate on<br />

any public or private property that is not his or her own. Both of these<br />

nuisance matters are enforceable through our Animal Control By-law<br />

What can I do if there are wild animals, like skunks, raccoons,<br />

etc., that have made my property their home?<br />
