In the planning stage the project team can minimize risks with<br />

the following techniques:<br />

• Review existing/previous projects with the PMO <strong>for</strong><br />

commonality.<br />

• Follow a change-management process, use risk assessments.<br />

• Plan level of testing, and select right tests, and acceptance<br />

criteria.<br />

• Assign operations services ownership and control of process.<br />

• Define alternatives to launch (withdrawal), and back-out plans.<br />

• Create a test environment that mirrors the live environment.<br />

• Prepare <strong>for</strong> increase in frequency of changes with the Internet.<br />

• Deploy in test environment first, run parallel to live<br />

environment.<br />

• Ensure testing is broad not just on functions.<br />
