Festival of development
Every year for four October nights, Brussels is visited by politicians,
ministerial officials, members of local governments, entrepreneurs and
scientists. This year’s – already the seventh – European Week of Cities and
Regions was held under the motto: “Regions and cities for economic growth
and employment.” The host of the Open Days is the European Commission
and the Regional Committee.
About 5 000 guests from 220 regions took part in
the event. The core of the programme constituted
workshops and seminars (there were over 500 of
them this year) divided into subject sectors relating
to investment attractiveness of regions, international
cooperation, wise fund expending and good
practices. For all days the “investors’ café” was
opened - as a place of presentation of regions and
European institutions, exchange of opinions and
making new contacts.
Networking – the key to success
Open Days is the only European event which is
so numerously visited by people governing the cities
and regions of different parts of the continent.
Guests know very well that the investors’ café or an
official party is a great place where one can meet
potential partners to realize new projects. It is most
valued by representatives of the regions that are
not covered any more by the “Convergence” Objective
of the Cohesion Policy. They however may
use the EU programmes that should be realized by
at least three partners.
Also our members of local governments learn
Networking. Brussels was visited by a few marshals
of voivodships and many city presidents
and mayors. They often enjoyed invitations of the
partner regions and cities that actively participated
in Open Days.
