Vice-Chancellor’s welcome
I am delighted to welcome you to
the University of Canterbury.
It is a pleasure to have this opportunity to show
you what makes the UC experience unique for our
students and what sets us apart from other
New Zealand universities.
Ranked in the top three per cent of the world’s
universities, UC offers a stimulating range of
courses, a vibrant campus environment and a
great lifestyle where our students are encouraged
to see more, feel more and do more.
This means they get the very best of active
learning experiences while studying. Science
students undertake field work and experiments
in some of the South Island’s most scenic
settings and recent events in Christchurch have
made the city a “real life lab” for students across
a range of disciplines.
Business and arts internships offer “real world”
practice with industry professionals, law studies
are brought alive through debates and mooting
and teaching placements around the country
give our education students a chance to put their
learning to work in the classroom.
2
Located in a beautiful campus, UC has been
producing leaders for 140 years, building up an
impressive international reputation for its high
quality degrees, teaching staff and research.
Our on-campus accommodation provides
students with a range of options so they can
live in a fun and supportive environment while
they get used to university life. We also provide a
wide range of support services from the moment
students arrive on campus right through their
studies to their graduation.
We are committed to the future employability of
all our students and to helping them find careers
they are passionate about once we have equipped
them with the knowledge, skills and experience
they need.
UC is a culturally diverse community where all
students enjoy a truly global experience
through exposure to a variety of cultures and
value systems. With access to all of the above,
as well as a creative and energetic social calendar,
fitness campaigns, volunteer programmes and
opportunities for community involvement, the
world literally expands before their eyes through
experiences they will never forget.
Because you, as a careers advisor, play such a
vital role in relaying all that UC has to offer
toprospective students, we have arranged a
full programme over the next two days so you
canexperience our facilities and services
first-hand, and meet some of our academic staff
and students.
Once again, welcome to UC and thank you for
your interest and support.
