Christie projectors selected for
Disney’s first 3D outdoor world
premiere of “Pirates of the Caribbean:
On Stranger Tides”

“The World Premiere of “Pirates of the Caribbean:
On Stranger Tides” — the largest outdoor 3D
movie premiere ever — took place at Disneyland on
May 7th, and captured all of the fun, fantasy, and
adventure that the “Pirates” franchise represents.
The Walt Disney Studios selected Christie Solaria
Series projectors to show the film on a giant screen
built right on the Rivers of America, directly across
from the Pirates of the Caribbean attraction. The
movie, directed by Rob Marshall and produced by
Jerry Bruckheimer, roared to the screen in brilliant
Disney Digital 3D to an exceptionally responsive
crowd which included the film’s stars and many
Hollywood celebrities.

the Caribbean: On Stranger

Heralded by elite filmmakers and supported by
major Hollywood studios, Christie Solaria Series
projectors were selected for their treasure trove of
features such as Christie Brilliant 3D technology
and the highest brightness levels. Designed to
meet the demands of the largest screens, indoor
and out, six powerful Christie CP2230 projectors,
paired with Christie Xenolite ® lamps, illuminated
the 86.5 ft by 35 ft (26.4m x 10.7m) screen, from
a distance of approx. 190 ft (57.9 m). Unmatched
contrast and stunning colors delivered a
razor-sharp Disney Digital 3D viewing experience
for Disney’s first outdoor premiere and the first
Pirates movie in the franchise to be shot in 3D.

of a 20ft (6.1m) sea container which was very
portable. Inside we had lighting, power, and air
