SUMMARY<br />
NextGen is a complex initiative consisting of a conglomeration of interrelated concepts<br />
supporting a vision of increased NAS efficiency and throughput. However, as of November<br />
2010, much of <strong>the</strong> documentation was still written in very high level <strong>term</strong>s. AIR’s data<br />
collection, review, and syn<strong>the</strong>sis processes described above were designed to operationalize<br />
those ideas. This process ultimately resulted in a list of NextGen Drivers that are likely to affect<br />
<strong>the</strong> <strong>job</strong> of ATCT line <strong>controller</strong>s in <strong>the</strong> <strong>mid</strong>-<strong>term</strong>, which were <strong>the</strong>n evaluated to de<strong>term</strong>ine <strong>the</strong>ir<br />
impact on <strong>the</strong> <strong>job</strong> in 2018. However, be<strong>for</strong>e <strong>the</strong> Drivers and <strong>the</strong>ir impact on <strong>the</strong> <strong>job</strong> are<br />
described, an explanation of <strong>the</strong> organization of <strong>the</strong> <strong>FAA</strong>’s current <strong>job</strong> in<strong>for</strong>mation is presented<br />
in Section III to help readers familiarize <strong>the</strong>mselves with <strong>the</strong> structure because it is also used to<br />
organize in<strong>for</strong>mation about <strong>the</strong> <strong>job</strong> as it will exist in <strong>the</strong> NextGen <strong>mid</strong>-<strong>term</strong>.<br />
