WELCOME TO LONDON BRIDGE HOSPITAL 

Welcome to London Bridge Hospital 

We are pleased to present London Bridge Hospital Referrer’s Guide which has been 

designed to give you the latest information on the outpatient services at the hospital 

and full practice details for our regular referring consultants. 

London Bridge Hospital has a diagnostic centre which is located in Canary Wharf. For 

further information about this site please contact the GP Liaison Department. 

Our city based diagnostic and treatment centre, 31 Old Broad Street, provides rapid 

appointments for people with busy work schedules. To find out more about this centre, 

please also contact the GP Liaison Department.

The Middle East Department 

The Middle East Department plays a significant role in providing high quality service for Middle Eastern 

patients and their relatives during their stay in our hospital. 

Our Middle-East staff speak Arabic and they take pride in looking after the patients and their relatives to try 

and make them feel ‘at home’. The service begins from the moment the medical report is received. The 

medical report is then passed to the appropriate specialist for a medical opinion of what surgery or treatment 

is required. If the patient decides to come to London for treatment, the Middle-East team will help with the 

necessary arrangements for the patient and his or her relatives, including providing a list of accommodation 

details, consultation and/or admission and transportation (ambulance or air ambulance as required). 

Once a patient has arrived at the hospital, a full range of services are provided including translators to meet 

all patients daily needs during their stay.

HOW TO FIND US 

London Bridge Hospital is situated on the South Bank of the Thames. We are opposite London Bridge mainline and 

underground stations with easy access to the City. 

Train - London Bridge Station is serviced by trains from Kent and Surrey and offers direct connections to Charing 

Cross, Cannon Street, Waterloo East stations and Blackfriars. Trains also connect directly with all stations on the 

Thameslink line. Liverpool Street Station is five minutes North of London Bridge Hospital by taxi. 

Underground - London Bridge station is on the Jubilee Line and Northern Line (City Branch). 

By car - The nearest car park is Snowsfields on Kipling Street which is open all day, every day. The Union Car Park 

is right next to London Bridge station on St Thomas Street, open 06.30-19.00hrs Monday-Saturday. Please note: No 

right hand turn from Borough High Street in Duke Street Hill.

The imaging services department provides a wide range of diagnostic services. All procedures are reported by a 

Consultant Radiologist. Individual Radiologists/Consultant Physicians are available for a range of specialties (see 

below) including Neurology, Renal and Orthopaedics. Examinations are available, and can be reported, within 24 

hours and often on the same day.

Oncology

The oncology unit at London Bridge Hospital is situated in comfortable surroundings and provides a range of 

inpatient, outpatient and day case oncology services. 

The unit is specialised in medical and surgical oncology, particularly breast and maxillo-facial, diagnostic and 

interventional radiology. 

Our oncology nurses are specially trained to care for cancer patients and most are qualified to administer 

chemotherapy drugs. Due to the nature of the treatment, patients can sometimes spend a considerable length 

of time in the hospital and for this reason, the staff aim to provide a friendly and informal atmosphere for 

patients, their families and visitors. There is a ‘quiet room’ set aside for relatives on the 5th floor. 

Patients requiring day case chemotherapy can be cared for in the Chemotherapy Day Unit. The unit has eight 

chairs for day case and outpatient chemotherapy as well as two fully-equipped consulting rooms for outpatient 

consultations. 

There are two telephone helplines - 020 7234 2571 on the 5th floor and 020 7234 2422 in the Day Unit - 

available 24 hours a day for patients and relatives seeking advice, information and support. 

In support of the clinical services provided, a range of complimentary therapies are available for patients 

during their stay. These include: 

* Aromatherapy 

* Reflexology 

* Massage 

* Homoeopathy 

* Indian Head Massage 

Patients who require palliation and symptom control are also nursed in the unit and there is a dedicated 

Consultant and Clinical Nurse Specialist in Palliative Care who offer counselling, support and help with transfer to 

community palliative care teams. There is also a Breast Care Clinical Nurse Specialist who sees patients from 

diagnosis through to treatment. 

A Cinical Psychologist is available for patients who need counselling on a more formal basis. 

The hospital’s chaplain visits three afternoons a week and she is able to provide Holy Communion if required.
