Summer Reading Program MCCS Libraries’ 2013 Summer Reading Program, “Have Book Will Travel,” has everything you need to get your little one ready to read this summer. The first 1,500 children to register will receive a special gift. Kids that keep reading can earn prizes. Prizes are great, but keeping children reading to combat summer reading loss is even better. Reading just six books over the summer can be enough to offset reading loss and provide children with a jump-start on the upcoming school year. The program is for readers 11 and under and 12 to 18. For our tweens and younger, the goal during this sixweek program is for children to read, or be read to, a total number of hours depending on their age category. Teens will target a higher goal by any combination of reading, completing brain-teasing quizzes and attending library events. Small incentive prizes will be awarded for making progress along with a chance to win grand prizes at the end. This year’s program begins June 23 and runs through August 4. The last day to register is July 28. Participating libraries are Camps Courtney, Foster and Kinser. For more information, stop by one of the MCCS libraries or visit mccsokinawa. com/libraries for phone numbers.
