Nan Whitley has been<br />

the softball coach at<br />

Catawba College since<br />

1983. During seven<br />

seasons of slow pitch<br />

softball (1983-89), her<br />

teams won 69 percent of their games (178-79). Whitley,<br />

with the assistance of her husband, Cecil, won<br />

five slow-pitch conference or district championships<br />

in the 1980s. In 1990, Catawba and the entire South<br />

Atlantic Conference moved to fast-pitch competition.<br />

and their players<br />

sport in the history of Catawba College athletics.<br />

Whitley hails from Ephrata, PA, where she enjoyed<br />

an outstanding athletic career at Ephrata Area High<br />

School. She came to Catawba and played field<br />

hockey and softball. She graduated in 1974 with a<br />

bachelor's degree in health and physical education.<br />

Whitley served as the Catawba field hockey coach<br />

from 1982-2000, posting a 128-163-13 record and<br />

a Deep South Association championship in 1988.<br />

Due to her outstanding accomplishments as a twosport<br />

athlete and coach at Catawba, Whitley became<br />

the first woman inducted into the school's<br />

Sports Hall of Fame on April 3, 1993.<br />

Nan and Cecil reside in Salisbury. They have a<br />

daughter Adrian, an assistant with the softball program,<br />

and a son, Alex.<br />

Shane Prescott joined the<br />

Catawba Softball program<br />

as an assistant coach for<br />

the 2007 season. Prescott<br />

came to Catawba from<br />

Pfeiffer University where he<br />

was with the Falcon program for six seasons and<br />

was head coach the last four years.<br />

A 1995 graduate of Randolph Community College,<br />

Prescott earned an associate degree in applied science.<br />

He graduated in 1999 from Blue Ridge Healing<br />

Arts Academy with a license to practice massage<br />

and bodywork therapy.<br />

Prescott resides in Concord with his wife, Jennifer.<br />

They have two daughters, Adda and Emme.<br />

Adrian Gantt has been an<br />

assistant coach with the<br />

Catawba College softball<br />

program since 2001. She<br />

serves as the pitching<br />

coach. For four seasons,<br />

Gantt was the head coach of the Catawba field<br />

hockey team.<br />

A 1998 graduate of Catawba, Gantt earned a bachelor<br />

of arts degree in biology. Gantt received a master<br />

of science degree in exercise science at<br />

Appalachian State in 2000.<br />

Gantt was a two-sport athlete at Catawba, playing<br />

four years of field hockey and softball. She was a<br />

two-time All-American in field hockey and twice<br />

earned All-South Atlantic Conference honors in softball.<br />

Gantt received the Lomax Award for Catawba’s<br />

top senior female<br />

athlete in 1998.<br />

Osburne’s responsibilities<br />

business operations of the conference, in<br />

and assisting with championship operations and compliance.<br />

She is also the on-site administrator of the SAC Tennis Championship.<br />

Osburne came to the SAC after<br />

earning a Master of Human and Environmental<br />

Science in Sport Management from the University of Alabama.<br />

While at Alabama,<br />

she worked in Athletic Student Services, where she ensured student-athletes at-<br />

Osburne graduated with her bachelor’s degree in commerce and business<br />

administration -- also from the University of Alabama. She worked as a teaching<br />

assistant in the business school during her undergraduate years.<br />

In the summer of 2009, Osburne was an intern for the Director of Marketing<br />

of the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs minor league hockey franchise. In the winter<br />

of 2009, she served as an intern for the team’s General Manager.<br />

Osburne is originally from Shreveport, La., and currently resides in Rock Hill.<br />

and 2011 NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Championships, with a primary focus<br />

on media coordination for the event’s 13 preliminary-round sites and the Final Four.<br />
