schools close. Unless otherwise notified, assume
the schools will be open. You can now choose to be
Programs for Exceptional Children
Vestavia Hills City Board of Education is committed, through IDEA
2004, to identify, locate, and evaluate children, ages birth through 21,
who regardless of the severity of their disability, need special
education and related services. Child Find applies to children who
attend public and private schools within the Vestavia City limits,
including children attending religious schools, highly mobile children
with disabilities (i.e. migrant and homeless) and children who are
suspected of having a disability and are in need of special education
even though they are advancing from grade to
grade.
Early intervention agencies and Public School
Special Education Services work closely with
community service agencies and parents to
locate children with disabilities from birth
through age 21. Child Find is a statewide
effort by the Alabama State Department of
Education and the Department of
Rehabilitation Services to locate children with
disabilities from birth to age 21. For further
information, contact Mrs. Linda Brady, the
Director of Exceptional Education at the
Vestavia Hills Board of Education, 402-‐5316.
You may also contact the State Child Find
Agency at 1-‐800-‐543-‐3098.
