GCOLA IS WORKING FOR YOU
• Installs and maintains one of the premier navigational buoy systems in the State of Minnesota. This system
is NOT provided by local law enforcement.
• Provides free map with boating rules and regulation at three public landings.
• In partnership with Cass and Crow Wing county sheriffs, provides boat safety training for approximately
50 youth per year.
• Provides matching funds to a DNR grant to hire interns to monitor boats at public boat launches for
invasive weeds and aquatic species on weekends and major holidays.
• Has leased sensor devices at three public landings to monitor boats for invasive weeds before launching.
• Maintains an invasive species task force that keeps watch on all areas of the lake for the early detection
and eradication or control of invasive species that will negatively impact lake quality and property values.
• Monitors lake and streams running into the Chain for water quality. The samples are taken by GCOLA
member volunteers, with testing completed by licensed environmental labs. With the testing completed
the past two years we are developing a data base which will help us identify problems now and in the
future and provide guidance for action plans.
• Promotes lakeshore restoration projects. We are currently providing matching grants for four restoration
projects through a grant from the Initiative Foundation.
• Works with county sheriffs on safety and enforcement issues
• Issues four newsletters per year to keep members informed about association programs and important
issues affecting lake quality and property owners.
• Monitors changes in state law affecting lake use and lakefront property owners.
