Personal toiletries (biodegradable soaps and shampoos are recommended)
Toilet paper (you may want to buy a four-pack in Nadi to bring with you)
Antibacterial wipes or lotion (good for “washing” hands while in the field)
Personal First Aid kit (e.g. anti-diarrhea pills, antibiotics, antiseptic, itch-relief, antihistamines, pain reliever,
bandages, blister covers, etc.) and personal medications
Sanitary pads or tampons if necessary
Packet of soap powder for washing clothes by hand (biodegradable detergent is recommended)

Camera, film/memory card(s), extra camera battery
Extra carton of water if you want to supplement the provided treated water (you can purchase Fiji Water in
Nadi)
Earplugs for light sleepers
Sleeping bag
Small mirror for personal use
Soft pillow (most pillows in Vusama are made of hard foam)
Cushion/Pad to sit on in the village houses (you will need to sit on hard floors for prolonged periods)
Knee pads for excavation work (a foam gardeners’ knee cushion can double for excavation work and for
sitting on the hard floors in the village)
Recharger, adapter and power-surge protector for electronics
Mosquito coils and matches (can be purchased in Nadi)
Small bag of candies for the children of your host family (can be purchased in Nadi)
Farewell gifts for your host family (perhaps two extra large t-shirts, a towel or a small wall hanging or
calendar from your home country/region)
Snacks and an airtight plastic container to store them
Travel guidebook
Fijian language phrasebook
Book, journal, art supplies, etc. to use during down time
