Test passed – bravissimo!<br />

Enel staff spent a month testing a <strong>Unimog</strong> U <strong>20</strong> under extremely tough conditions – and they were delighted with the results.<br />

The Italian power company has now ordered 50 of the all-purpose units.<br />

STAFF FROM Enel, Italy’s largest power company,<br />

spent a month subjecting a <strong>Unimog</strong> U <strong>20</strong><br />

to some thorough testing. The prototype had to<br />

withstand some tough challenges on a daily<br />

basis, over rough terrain, on unsurfaced roads,<br />

up and down hill, on motorways, around narrow<br />

urban streets and through thick forest.<br />

Enel was looking to make absolute sure that<br />

by choosing the U <strong>20</strong> it was acquiring a robust,<br />

efficient and above all safe all-rounder. After<br />

four weeks of continuous and tough trials, the<br />

Enel, Italy’s largest power company, needs reliable<br />

service vehicles. Its staff tested the U <strong>20</strong> for<br />

four weeks under extremely tough conditions.<br />

result was clear: the <strong>Unimog</strong> U <strong>20</strong> had passed<br />

with flying colours.<br />

“Happily, the testers were very pleased with<br />

the U <strong>20</strong>,” reports Guido Corradi, head of the<br />

<strong>Special</strong>-Purpose Vehicles and Engineering<br />

departments of <strong>Mercedes</strong>-<strong>Benz</strong> Italy and the<br />

man responsible for the Enel project. After the<br />

successful test phase, the power company has<br />

now ordered 50 of the vehicles. They are all<br />

fitted with Oil&Steel lift platforms – a vital<br />

component for the vehicles’ future work on<br />
