Stand still? Not at all!
The Unimog-Museum in Gaggenau is hosting a special exhibition illustrating
the role played by “The Unimog with the Military” since 1949.
A TRIP into the Unimog’s military past is
offered by a special exhibition being hosted
by the Unimog Museum in Gaggenau
throughout October 3rd, 2010. This for the
first time places the spotlight on engineer
corps vehicles with built-on equipment
normally seen in operation on construction
sites: a Unimog 406 (Bundeswehr variant), a
SEE tractor fitted with extensive tooling, and
a latest-model U 400 intended for export.
Changing exhibits make the presentation
even more attractive.
Visitors can discover – based on historic
film clips, documents, artefacts, drawings,
brochures and models – how the Unimog
grew out of its initial development as an agricultural
or forestry industry tractor rig after
the Second World War, and how its progress
can also be traced to both the Swiss Army
and Germany’s Bundeswehr. There is a dedi-
cated children’s tour to entertain the young
ones. And an artistic approach to the depiction
of history is conveyed by the threedimen
sional images of the Unimog working
on military assignments created by Belgian

The Unimog came out on top of the special-purpose vehicle category in a reader poll organised by
OFF ROAD magazine. It was in fact the sixth time in a row that the Unimog had won the award.
IT’S DONE IT AGAIN: The Unimog has taken
first prize in the “Special-purpose vehicles”
category of the OFF ROAD reader poll 2010,
gathering 37.9 percent of the votes cast.
This continued the Unimog’s triumphal
series of victories in the contest, marking
artist Toon Versniock. As an added attraction,
from July there will be a special 1:87 scale
model WIKING available in the museum
