<strong>The</strong> subgenus was proposed for species <strong>of</strong> the socalled<br />

macrolabis group, previously assigned to Lunatipula.<br />

<strong>The</strong> type <strong>of</strong> the subgenus, T. (L.) macrolabis<br />

Loew, is very widespread in northern North America,<br />

extending to northeastern Asia, and may possibly be<br />

found in the state.<br />

Subgenus Lunetipula Edwards<br />

Lunatipula is the largest subgenus <strong>of</strong> Tipula in the<br />

state and is one <strong>of</strong> the most difficult taxonomically.<br />

For convenience in handling the numerous species,<br />

these have been placed in 20 groups and have been<br />

arranged in the smaller units in the keys and on the
