SENIOR SCHOOL STUDENT - PARENT HANDBOOK

During the year in grades 6-10, the results are expressed as one or
more MYP criterion achievement levels (see below) and, in grades 11
and 12, in a variety of ways, sometimes on the IB 1-7 scale. In all
grades the final end-of-year evaluation is expressed as a number on
the 1-7 scale.
Summative Assessment Procedures
The following procedures all refer to summative assessments only. They do not
necessarily apply to formative assessments.
1. At the start of each unit, students receive a brief outline of the unit
including an overview of the assessment task.
2. All students studying a unit are assessed using the same criteria.
3. Students are informed at least one schedule rotation before the date of a
summative assessment task. This information includes:
• What they have to know
• What form the task will have (test, project, presentation)
• Criteria to be assessed
• Assessment rubric
• How long the task will take
• Due date of the task
4. Feedback on summative assessments is given as soon as possible but no
later than one rotation after the date of the assessment.
5. Students have the opportunity to view their marked summative
assessments with the associated rubrics 1
6. The summative assessments, rubric, criteria, results and feedback
comments are made available to parents (for example by sending the
assessment home for signature or by collecting in a portfolio for
discussion at progress conferences)*.
7. If a student is absent for an in-class summative assessment task or on the
day a hand-in task is due, they will be asked to provide evidence of a good
reason for the absence before being allowed to complete the task.
Arrangements will be made for an alternative completion date or task.
