Caterpillar Special Purpose Grease
Application
A Caterpillar Special Purpose Grease (SPG) is designed to provide excellent
lubrication of Caterpillar ball and roller bearings operating over a broad
temperature range. It is particularly outstanding at high speeds (10,000 rpm
and greater) and high temperatures 150°C (300°F) or higher, and under moist
conditions, especially where there is a possibility of salt water entering the
bearings. SPG performs satisfactorily in bearings in temperatures as low as
-30°C (-22°F). The outstanding performance of the grease is due, to a large
extent, to the synthetic thickener and to the corrosion inhibitors used in its
formulation. Caterpillar SPG will outperform most other greases in the
following applications:
• Sealed for life ball bearings.
• Unsealed bearings on automotive alternators.
Recommended use
Recommended for Caterpillar high
temperature antifriction bearings in
such applications as electric motors,
alternators, fan drives, starters and
generators.
• Bearings on air conditioning units in homes and other buildings.
• Unsealed electric motor bearings operating under moist conditions.
It can also be used in automotive
and industrial applications,
particularly where equipment
is operated intermittently in
severe conditions.
