Decision
Making
Yes? No
for
SMART KIDS
Preface
Do you know that you make many decisions in a day?
The last time you took out your toys and played with them, you
took out one special toy, maybe the toy train, and played with it.
You took a decision there.
When you watch television, you make another decision.
It does not take you a moment even to make this decision. Before
you realise you have already pressed the TV remote and switched
on, let’s say Pokemon, for example. You love watching the cartoon
show. That is the why this decision was fast and easy.
But sometimes when we decide to do something because we love
doing it, we may have to pay a price. It can turn out to be a bad
decision. Therefore, don’t wait anymore and find out how to make
good and smart decisions.
When Neil
goes for Cycling
5
It was Sunday afternoon and Neil was going over
his maths lessons. He had a test in class the next
day. The maths teacher was going to test them
for fractions. The test was important because the
results would be counted in the final assessment
at the end of the school year.
Neil usually does well in the class; he is among the
top students in his class. His teachers love him for
that and his friends admire him because he is good
in studies.
6
On Sunday, as Neil was doing a sum of fraction for
practice, he thought he heard Anita calling him
from his gate.
“Neil, are you coming with us for a ride?”
Neil pushed back his chair and walked to the
window. He saw Anita and Jack on their bicycles
at the gate.
“Wait a minute, I am coming,” he told them.
7
Neil closed the window, came back to his table,
shut his maths notebook, put on his sneakers and
he left with his bicycle. The three friends went
riding near the lake in their neighborhood. They
had a great time together that afternoon. They
raced one another, they stopped to watch the
ducks swim in the lake and they rode again.
It was late by the time Neil came home.
His mother was upset that he was out so long.
8
“Don’t you have a test tomorrow? Have you
practiced your fractions,” she asked him.
“Yes, mama, a little,” Neil replied. “I will practice
some more after dinner.” When Neil opened his
notebook once again and wrote down a sum, he felt
heaviness in the eyelids. He had to force them open
with will power. Soon the yawns kept coming one
after another, he just couldn’t control them. Neil
was too tired. He soon gave up the struggle and
went to bed.
9
Neil thought he did well at the test the next day.
But when the maths teacher returned the test
papers, Neil saw he had left too many careless
mistakes. He scored poorly in the test. Neil was
very sad because he knew he would not be among
the top five in class that year.
“If only I had stayed home and practiced some
more,” Neil thought. He clearly regretted going out
for a bicycle ride the day before the test.
