COMMUNICATIONS ACHIEVEMENTS<br />

Spreading the good news about <strong>Reading</strong> <strong>Recovery</strong><br />

RRCNA Web Site<br />

The RRCNA Web site is the information hub for the<br />

<strong>Reading</strong> <strong>Recovery</strong> community. In 20<strong>06</strong>, several new<br />

sections attracted visitors:<br />

• More than a dozen pr<strong>of</strong>iles <strong>of</strong> outstanding principals<br />

were featured in the implementation section.<br />

• A news section summarized 58 articles with<br />

information about <strong>Reading</strong> <strong>Recovery</strong> from daily<br />

and weekly newspapers.<br />

• Videos featuring <strong>Reading</strong> <strong>Recovery</strong> lessons,<br />

pr<strong>of</strong>essional development, and cost-effectiveness<br />

were viewed more than 800 times.<br />

• A news section on the <strong>Reading</strong> First investigation<br />

generated more than 12,800 downloads <strong>of</strong> the<br />

<strong>Reading</strong> <strong>Recovery</strong> request and links to news<br />

articles about the investigation.<br />

Center for Early<br />

Literacy Information<br />

The Center for Early Literacy Information<br />

(CELI), originally funded by a grant from<br />

Verizon Reads, is a digital library <strong>of</strong> early<br />

literacy resources. In the past year, the CELI digital library<br />

grew to include more than 600 articles, books, and other<br />

resources. More than 2,500 unique visitors are using the site<br />

each month.<br />

CELI’s growth has been extraordinary—from 415 visitor<br />

sessions per month in July 2004 to almost 8,500 visitor<br />

sessions a month by the end <strong>of</strong> the 20<strong>06</strong> school year. Since<br />

CELI’s inception in July 2004, nearly 14,000 copies <strong>of</strong> articles<br />

from Literacy Teaching and Learning have been downloaded<br />

from CELI.<br />

Pr<strong>of</strong>essional Journals<br />

RRCNA publishes two pr<strong>of</strong>essional journals, each with<br />

two issues per year. The Journal <strong>of</strong> <strong>Reading</strong> <strong>Recovery</strong> is<br />

written for <strong>Reading</strong> <strong>Recovery</strong> practitioners and includes<br />

topics on teaching, implementation, and research, as<br />

well as RRCNA news. The second journal, Literacy<br />

Teaching and Learning, focuses on wider literacy issues<br />

and is an interdisciplinary forum on issues such as<br />

language acquisition, literacy development, and<br />

instructional theory and practice.<br />
