Wh<strong>at</strong> money remained <strong>the</strong> boys dedic<strong>at</strong>ed to Bacchus, in <strong>the</strong><br />

form of vin blanc, vin rouge and champagne, so th<strong>at</strong> when <strong>the</strong><br />

gre<strong>at</strong> day finally arrived, it found everybody ready and prepared<br />

to enjoy <strong>the</strong>mselves. Extra r<strong>at</strong>ions had been brought up and all<br />

had a good Christmas dinner.<br />

At Godewaersvelde, Christmas found B. Section with <strong>the</strong> jute<br />

fabrique. well on <strong>the</strong> way toward being ready for <strong>the</strong> reception<br />

of p<strong>at</strong>ients. Time out was taken for <strong>the</strong> erection of a stage and<br />

a very creditable affair, <strong>com</strong>plete with drop curtain and wings,<br />

was rigged up. Tables were set in <strong>the</strong> hall and <strong>the</strong> men enjoyed<br />

<strong>the</strong> novelty of seeing real china dishes and home-like cutlery<br />

again.<br />

At 6.30 p.m. <strong>the</strong> Section s<strong>at</strong> down to dine, Captain Nicholson<br />

<strong>at</strong> <strong>the</strong> head of <strong>the</strong> table. The menu was as follows:<br />
