Students will develop greater skill in<br />
expressing and understanding oral<br />
and written Spanish. Spanish 4 is the<br />
appropriate choice for students who want<br />
a more comprehensive foundation before<br />
taking CIS 1003, or for students who<br />
cannot meet the rigorous demands of CIS<br />
1003 yet want to continue the advanced<br />
study of Spanish.<br />

semester credits through the University<br />
of Minnesota. Content will include<br />
culture of Spanish speaking countries,<br />
grammar study and extensive proficiencybased<br />
activities. This includes writing<br />
in Spanish and discussions of Spanish<br />
literature. CIS 1003 is designed for<br />
students who would like to enroll in<br />
CIS Spanish and would benefit from the<br />
additional time afforded by a year-long<br />
course. Due to the rigor of the course, the<br />
University of Minnesota recommends that<br />
students have at least a 3.3 GPA.<br />

This course is for students with limited or<br />
no experience in ASL. Students will begin<br />
to understand and sign ASL. Students<br />
will become acquainted with the American<br />
Deaf culture.<br />

Students will progress in their fluency of<br />
signing and understanding ASL through<br />
addition of new vocabulary, structures<br />
and practice, and they will gain new<br />
insights into international Deaf culture.<br />

AMERICAN SIGN LANGUAGE 3<br />
Full Year/1 credit Grades 11-12<br />
Prerequisite: ASL 2<br />
Level: General<br />
This course will increase the depth of<br />
the language studies by continuing to<br />
facilitate fluency in ASL by mastering<br />
the more difficult grammatical features<br />
including, but not limited to, classifiers,<br />
spatial agreement, and non-manual<br />
signals. The students will be expected<br />
to be able to carry on longer discourse/<br />
narratives with various real-world<br />
scenarios. Students will broaden their<br />
cultural awareness of Deaf culture and<br />
literature.<br />
