In early February, 2012, the 10th Asia-Pacific Microscopy Conference (APMC 10), the 2012 

International Conference on Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (ICONN 2012) and the 22 nd 

Australian Conference on Microscopy and Microanalysis (ACMM 22) will be held in Perth, 

Western Australia, as a single, integrated event. 

The Conference will include pre-event Short Courses, Workshops and a concurrent major 

Equipment Exhibition, at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre. The combined event will 

be the largest microscopy and nanotechnology-related event in Australia’s history. Over 1,500 

delegates from more than 30 nations are expected to provide a unique and exciting forum. 

The Conference is being conducted under the auspices of the Council of Asia-Pacific Societies 

for Microscopy (CAPSM), The Australian Research Council Nanotechnology Network (ARCNN) 

and the Australian Microscopy and Microanalysis Society Inc (AMMS). 

The Conference is dedicated to the memory of David Cockayne FRS ( 1942-2011).

About ICONN 2012 

The Nanoscience and Nanotechnology promise has been 

around for some time. In the 21st century, researchers 

are working on technologies to achieve these exact goals! 

The prospect of injecting patients with machines to make 

repairs, of creating super-strong and light materials for 

space exploration, of restoring environmental systems 

on a molecular level are all part of the promise of 

Nanotechnology. Most importantly, unlike so many other 

fields, Nanotechnology is delivering. 

ICONN 2012 will bring together national and international 

researchers, industry, students and early career scientists to 

present the latest in the truly multidisciplinary research fields 

covering nine symposia from the nanosafety, regulatory and 

ethics of nanotechnology, nano materials, devices, systems 

and industry applications. 

We have already attracted a number of outstanding 

international plenary speakers and will hold a number of 

short courses in a number of areas related to nanoscience 

and nanotechnology. 

Microscopy and microanalysis are sciences that progress 

rapidly through innovative applications and technological 

advances by very smart people. We are proud that many of 

these people, have accepted our invitation to be a part of this 

conference in Perth. 

The Asia-Pacific Microscopy Conference is a four yearly 

flagship event run by The Committee of Asia-Pacific 

Societies for Electron Microscopy (CAPSEM). CAPSEM 

started in 1984 under the auspices of the International 

Federation of Societies for Microscopy (IFSM), of which 

it is a regional member. CAPSM was founded to foster 

the development of all aspects of electron microscopy by 

supporting existing activities and stimulating new ones. 

CAPSM also assists individual researchers and regional 

research groups in meeting their needs such as technical 

staff training, while facilitating the interchange of information 

from past meetings. 

In 2008 the CAPSM Council voted to combine the APMC- 

10 with the 22 nd Australian Conference on Microscopy and 

Microanalysis, the first time for an APMC in Australia. A 

further opportunity arose to integrate with the ICONN 2012, 

resulting in the largest microscopy and nanotechnology event 

ever to be held in Australia. 

The 2012 Conference will present the latest developments in 

the instrumentation, specimen preparation and integration of 

microscopy and microanalysis of different areas of physical 

and biological sciences.

About the Host Bodies 

CAPSEM 

When the 3rd International Congress on Electron Microscopy 

(ICEM) was held in London in 1954, the International Federation 

of Societies for Electron Microscopy (IFSEM) was founded. It 

was agreed that IFSEM should sponsor regional conferences 

in Europe (EUREM) and Asia, as well as the Oceania Regional 

Conference (AORC). All three events are quadrennial but occur 

in biennially staggered intervals. The AORC and the EUREM 

take place in the same year. CAPSM was founded to foster 

the development of all aspects of electron microscopy by 

supporting existing activities and stimulating new ones. The 

Committee supports and initiates specialised meeting, symposia 

and workshops. CAPSM also assists individual researchers 

and regional research groups in meeting their needs such as 

technical staff training, while facilitating the interchange of 

information from past meetings. 

ANN (Australian Nanotechnology Network) 

(Note ARCNN is now called ANN) 

The Nanotechnology field is one of the fastest growing areas 

of research and technology. The Australian Nanotechnology 

Network (ANN), which was formerly known as the ARCNN, 

is dedicated to substantially enhancing Australia’s research 

outcomes in this important field by promoting effective 

collaborations, exposing researchers to alternative and 

complementary approaches from other fields, encouraging 

forums for postgraduate students and early career researchers, 

increasing nanotechnology infrastructure, enhancing awareness 

of existing infrastructure, and promoting industry and 

international links. The ANN will achieve these goals through its 

dedication to bringing together all the various groups working in 

the field of Nanotechnology and related areas within Australia. 

ICONN is the major forum designed to achieve these goals.

Terms and Conditions 

The following Terms and Conditions apply to ALL 

Sponsorship and Exhibition Packages: 

Booking Confirmation & Delivery Of Benefits 

• All prices listed in this document are in Australian Dollars 

and are inclusive of GST 

• Applications are not considered until receipt of 

Sponsorship & Exhibition Booking Form 

• Acceptance of Sponsorship & Exhibition application 

will be subject to Committee approval (please note, the 

Committee reserve the right to decline applications) 

• No industry exclusivity in any category is offered but we 

will endeavour to avoid allocating sponsors with similar 

business or conflicts of interest to the same category. 

• 50% non-refundable deposit must be forwarded with 

this application form for Packages Confirmed prior to 31 

October 2011, balance to be paid by 31 October 2011 

• Bookings received after 31 October 2011 must be 

accompanied with Full Payment 

• Payment of deposit required at the time of your booking, 

entitlements may not be fulfilled if deposit payment has 

not been received 

• The Conference Committee and the Organisers will take 

the upmost care to fulfil all listed benefits 

• Concern that benefits have not been met must be 

advised in writing to the Conference Secretariat prior to 

the event 

• All handbook advertising material and artwork must be 

provided by the sponsor at the sponsor’s own cost and 

provided to EECW Pty Ltd prior to 15 January 2012 

• The sponsor is responsible for any displays and banners 

supplied and erected at the Conference and must 

coordinate with EECW Pty Ltd prior to the event 

• Inclusions in the Conference print material may be 

forfeited if sponsorship is not confirmed and payment 

received prior to printing deadlines 

• Sponsors are responsible for the security of their own 

equipment and materials whilst at the Conference 

Cancellation Policy 

If the Sponsorship or Trade Display Package can be resold to 

another company, the company will receive a full refund, less 

50% of their deposit. If not able to be resold, the company 

will be liable to pay 50% of the total Sponsorship/Exhibition 

fee, if the cancellation request is received in writing prior to 

30 November 2011. 

Any Cancellations received after 30 November forfeits 100% 

of their deposit. 

Any refunds of deposits paid will be made after the 

Conference but no later than 31 February 2012. The 

company will not be entitled to any interest that the 

organiser may have derived from deposits made by the 

company. All bank charges, including senders and receiver’s 

charges, resulting from a refund related to cancellation of 

a sponsorship/trade display items will be passed on to the 

sponsor/exhibitor.
