In early February, 2012, the 10th Asia-Pacific <strong>Microscopy</strong> Conference (APMC 10), the 2012<br />

International Conference on Nanoscience <strong>and</strong> Nanotechnology (ICONN 2012) <strong>and</strong> the 22 nd<br />

<strong>Australian</strong> Conference on <strong>Microscopy</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Microanalysis</strong> (ACMM 22) will be held in Perth,<br />

Western Australia, as a single, integrated event.<br />

The Conference will include pre-event Short Courses, Workshops <strong>and</strong> a concurrent major<br />

Equipment <strong>Exhibition</strong>, at the Perth Convention <strong>and</strong> <strong>Exhibition</strong> Centre. The combined event will<br />

be the largest microscopy <strong>and</strong> nanotechnology-related event in Australia’s history. Over 1,500<br />

delegates from more than 30 nations are expected to provide a unique <strong>and</strong> exciting forum.<br />

The Conference is being conducted under the auspices of the Council of Asia-Pacific Societies<br />

for <strong>Microscopy</strong> (CAPSM), The <strong>Australian</strong> Research Council Nanotechnology Network (ARCNN)<br />

<strong>and</strong> the <strong>Australian</strong> <strong>Microscopy</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Microanalysis</strong> Society Inc (AMMS).<br />

The Conference is dedicated to the memory of David Cockayne FRS ( 1942-2011).<br />

About ICONN 2012<br />

The Nanoscience <strong>and</strong> Nanotechnology promise has been<br />

around for some time. In the 21st century, researchers<br />

are working on technologies to achieve these exact goals!<br />

The prospect of injecting patients with machines to make<br />

repairs, of creating super-strong <strong>and</strong> light materials for<br />

space exploration, of restoring environmental systems<br />

on a molecular level are all part of the promise of<br />

Nanotechnology. Most importantly, unlike so many other<br />

fields, Nanotechnology is delivering.<br />

ICONN 2012 will bring together national <strong>and</strong> international<br />

researchers, industry, students <strong>and</strong> early career scientists to<br />

present the latest in the truly multidisciplinary research fields<br />

covering nine symposia from the nanosafety, regulatory <strong>and</strong><br />

ethics of nanotechnology, nano materials, devices, systems<br />

<strong>and</strong> industry applications.<br />

We have already attracted a number of outst<strong>and</strong>ing<br />

international plenary speakers <strong>and</strong> will hold a number of<br />

short courses in a number of areas related to nanoscience<br />

<strong>and</strong> nanotechnology.<br />

<strong>Microscopy</strong> <strong>and</strong> microanalysis are sciences that progress<br />

rapidly through innovative applications <strong>and</strong> technological<br />

advances by very smart people. We are proud that many of<br />

these people, have accepted our invitation to be a part of this<br />

conference in Perth.<br />

The Asia-Pacific <strong>Microscopy</strong> Conference is a four yearly<br />

flagship event run by The Committee of Asia-Pacific<br />

Societies for Electron <strong>Microscopy</strong> (CAPSEM). CAPSEM<br />

started in 1984 under the auspices of the International<br />

Federation of Societies for <strong>Microscopy</strong> (IFSM), of which<br />

it is a regional member. CAPSM was founded to foster<br />

the development of all aspects of electron microscopy by<br />

supporting existing activities <strong>and</strong> stimulating new ones.<br />

CAPSM also assists individual researchers <strong>and</strong> regional<br />

research groups in meeting their needs such as technical<br />

staff training, while facilitating the interchange of information<br />

from past meetings.<br />

In 2008 the CAPSM Council voted to combine the APMC-<br />

10 with the 22 nd <strong>Australian</strong> Conference on <strong>Microscopy</strong> <strong>and</strong><br />

<strong>Microanalysis</strong>, the first time for an APMC in Australia. A<br />

further opportunity arose to integrate with the ICONN 2012,<br />

resulting in the largest microscopy <strong>and</strong> nanotechnology event<br />

ever to be held in Australia.<br />

The 2012 Conference will present the latest developments in<br />

the instrumentation, specimen preparation <strong>and</strong> integration of<br />

microscopy <strong>and</strong> microanalysis of different areas of physical<br />

<strong>and</strong> biological sciences.<br />

About the Host Bodies<br />

CAPSEM<br />

When the 3rd International Congress on Electron <strong>Microscopy</strong><br />

(ICEM) was held in London in 1954, the International Federation<br />

of Societies for Electron <strong>Microscopy</strong> (IFSEM) was founded. It<br />

was agreed that IFSEM should sponsor regional conferences<br />

in Europe (EUREM) <strong>and</strong> Asia, as well as the Oceania Regional<br />

Conference (AORC). All three events are quadrennial but occur<br />

in biennially staggered intervals. The AORC <strong>and</strong> the EUREM<br />

take place in the same year. CAPSM was founded to foster<br />

the development of all aspects of electron microscopy by<br />

supporting existing activities <strong>and</strong> stimulating new ones. The<br />

Committee supports <strong>and</strong> initiates specialised meeting, symposia<br />

<strong>and</strong> workshops. CAPSM also assists individual researchers<br />

<strong>and</strong> regional research groups in meeting their needs such as<br />

technical staff training, while facilitating the interchange of<br />

information from past meetings.<br />

ANN (<strong>Australian</strong> Nanotechnology Network)<br />

(Note ARCNN is now called ANN)<br />

The Nanotechnology field is one of the fastest growing areas<br />

of research <strong>and</strong> technology. The <strong>Australian</strong> Nanotechnology<br />

Network (ANN), which was formerly known as the ARCNN,<br />

is dedicated to substantially enhancing Australia’s research<br />

outcomes in this important field by promoting effective<br />

collaborations, exposing researchers to alternative <strong>and</strong><br />

complementary approaches from other fields, encouraging<br />

forums for postgraduate students <strong>and</strong> early career researchers,<br />

increasing nanotechnology infrastructure, enhancing awareness<br />

of existing infrastructure, <strong>and</strong> promoting industry <strong>and</strong><br />

international links. The ANN will achieve these goals through its<br />

dedication to bringing together all the various groups working in<br />

the field of Nanotechnology <strong>and</strong> related areas within Australia.<br />

ICONN is the major forum designed to achieve these goals.<br />

Terms <strong>and</strong> Conditions<br />

The following Terms <strong>and</strong> Conditions apply to ALL<br />

Sponsorship <strong>and</strong> <strong>Exhibition</strong> Packages:<br />

Booking Confirmation & Delivery Of Benefits<br />

• All prices listed in this document are in <strong>Australian</strong> Dollars<br />

<strong>and</strong> are inclusive of GST<br />

• Applications are not considered until receipt of<br />

Sponsorship & <strong>Exhibition</strong> Booking Form<br />

• Acceptance of Sponsorship & <strong>Exhibition</strong> application<br />

will be subject to Committee approval (please note, the<br />

Committee reserve the right to decline applications)<br />

• No industry exclusivity in any category is offered but we<br />

will endeavour to avoid allocating sponsors with similar<br />

business or conflicts of interest to the same category.<br />

• 50% non-refundable deposit must be forwarded with<br />

this application form for Packages Confirmed prior to 31<br />

October 2011, balance to be paid by 31 October 2011<br />

• Bookings received after 31 October 2011 must be<br />

accompanied with Full Payment<br />

• Payment of deposit required at the time of your booking,<br />

entitlements may not be fulfilled if deposit payment has<br />

not been received<br />

• The Conference Committee <strong>and</strong> the Organisers will take<br />

the upmost care to fulfil all listed benefits<br />

• Concern that benefits have not been met must be<br />

advised in writing to the Conference Secretariat prior to<br />

the event<br />

• All h<strong>and</strong>book advertising material <strong>and</strong> artwork must be<br />

provided by the sponsor at the sponsor’s own cost <strong>and</strong><br />

provided to EECW Pty Ltd prior to 15 January 2012<br />

• The sponsor is responsible for any displays <strong>and</strong> banners<br />

supplied <strong>and</strong> erected at the Conference <strong>and</strong> must<br />

coordinate with EECW Pty Ltd prior to the event<br />

• Inclusions in the Conference print material may be<br />

forfeited if sponsorship is not confirmed <strong>and</strong> payment<br />

received prior to printing deadlines<br />

• Sponsors are responsible for the security of their own<br />

equipment <strong>and</strong> materials whilst at the Conference<br />

Cancellation Policy<br />

If the Sponsorship or Trade Display Package can be resold to<br />

another company, the company will receive a full refund, less<br />

50% of their deposit. If not able to be resold, the company<br />

will be liable to pay 50% of the total Sponsorship/<strong>Exhibition</strong><br />

fee, if the cancellation request is received in writing prior to<br />

30 November 2011.<br />

Any Cancellations received after 30 November forfeits 100%<br />

of their deposit.<br />

Any refunds of deposits paid will be made after the<br />

Conference but no later than 31 February 2012. The<br />

company will not be entitled to any interest that the<br />

organiser may have derived from deposits made by the<br />

company. All bank charges, including senders <strong>and</strong> receiver’s<br />

charges, resulting from a refund related to cancellation of<br />

a sponsorship/trade display items will be passed on to the<br />

sponsor/exhibitor.<br />
